For my next build, I'll be going back to basics and having another go at these two. I've built all four in the range at several points over the last few years, so they serve as a pointer to any progress one may have made between attempts.

This is one I made about a year ago, which has become one of my cabinet favourites:

The first one will be the chap with the clipboard. Here are the sprues:

Very nicely moulded and detailed. The sculpting is a bit stiff and over scale, and some areas like the massive shoulders will need working on, but otherwise quite nice. The etch is for super-detailing the pp-sh if required.

Hello chaps. Take a seat.

The first is now built and ready for painting:

As you can see he's quite a chunky monkey. I took about 4mm off of the top of each arm as he was looking too Charles Atlas like, but now, and with the head on, he should look more in proportion.

The box art has him holding a map case, but the one you're provided with has to be cut from the box itself, which is no good. Instead I'm going to have his left hand holding the barrel of the PP-SH, which will be suspended before him.

Of the two head options I'm going for the bare-headed version, as the way the cap sits on the other is not too convincing. I also had to give this one a short back and sides - otherwise he was looking like a bit of a mod.

Cheers chaps - they occasionally let me out for the weekend (actually moving more stuff for the eldest).

Back and raring to go.....

Morning Peter

Glad you had a good weekend.

Your latest head is another super one, and well photographed too.

Even the larger scale heads aren't easy to photograph, as I am discovering.

You should have a good day with the painting, as the British summer seems to be on its way back?

regards

Peter - Thanks. And of course, it's the cheapest figure in the cabinet.

Steve - My good old Kodak digital is serving me well, though it's currently held together with an elastic band. I got a new Sony for my birthday, but it's so complicated that I need to set a day aside to set it up.

Weather's very mixed here, though quite humid - the paint is drying very quickly.

Progress report:

The top half is now painted. I used mixes of Vallejo Camo Olive for the tunic, rather than going straight for the Russian Uniform - thought it might give more depth. The collar tabs identify him as a 2nd lieutenant of a tank regiment.

Morning Peter

Great progress and super finish too.

As ever, the details make the figure pop.

The buttons, collar tabs and belt all look so realistic.

The old Kodak is doing a great job, how much better will the Sony be?

Perhaps a degree course to translate the instructions and functions?

Have a good day with the paint.

Regards

Steve - You know what it's like - Oh this looks easy enough, I'll just plug it in, then ''Please download app'' etc etc. Glad you like Ivan so far.

Ian - Thanks. He's getting there.
