At the moment I am building the Tamiya 1/48 Bf109E-3 (see other thread) I might as well build the Trumpeter 1/32 Bf109E-3 at the same time. This one is a bit more detailed in the cockpit and engine areas compared to the Tamiya one. So a few piccies to start with.

That looks good Tony. I like the ammunition boxes tucked in infront of the instrument panel.

Cheers

It has a small amount of PE in the kit. Part of the PE is for the rubber controls.

Is it just me that thinks the pilots position is realy weird? It looks as though he is sitting on the floor with his legs out in front, which must have been very uncomfortable.

I like the detail though and the PE makes a big difference.

I've just had a look at a couple of cockpit shots and I think the model looks a bit deceptive. There is an insert in the seat and that, combined with the height of the parachute, probably lifts the pilot up enough to make the position workable.

Alittle work tonight on the cockpit and engine. Engine painted all over with Vallejo black (71057),some of the smaller components will be painted in steel and aluminium. Cockpit painted in RLM02 before detailing of some parts.

I Like the look of this Tony, I might have to take a look at some of the other Trumpy kits in 1/32. Should be a fun photo at the end of all these, 1/72, 1/48, 1/32, are you going for a 1/24 as well???

The office looks good and I am sure that motor will too once you have stuck a few more bits on it!!!

I may do,but the Airfix 1/24 isnt great from some of the reviews for it. I may save for a few weeks and go for one of the Trumpeter ones.

Cheers Allyne. Painted the seat after adding some PE to it. Sorting the seat straps out ( Oh what fun ). Only get a few hours each night to work on this and the other 109.

The 1/24 Airfix Bf109 isn't a bad kit at all and it will certainly look like a 109. As with many of these kits, which are after all more than 30 years old,it is seriously lacking in detail. The cockpit isn't too visible but the lack of anything at all in the wheel wells can be easily addressed. I haven't made one for more than twenty years but I'm finding myself tempted!

Cheers

Thanks to Johns' ultra fast delivery and good prices I will carry on with this 109 again.

Very nice Tony, neatly built and painted too.

In my ignorance of most things aeronautical what is the large wheel at the side of the seat for?

Let me have a very uneducated guess, anything to do with...

Trim tabs

Emergency landing gear lowerer

Seat adjuster
