Got the Russian Green (well my version of it anyway) down tonight. I'm quite pleased with the pre-shading, I think when it's washed and weathered it should look quite good. I also highlighted a few bits with a lighter shade. :)

Cheers Moni. I've been playing with oils for the first time, to get some variation in colour. The mud is just pigments.

Looks good! Did you do pre-shading before painting on the Russian green?

Yes, black undercoat then went over the panels with white.

I am starting to see the value in that, as a relative new comer to model building, still learning and watching videos about techniques and what not.

Wonder if I could do the white with a brush (since I do not use an air brush)?

And do you take care to only apply a thin layer of Russian green on top of that, so the hues show through?

Not sure about the brush, with an airbrush you can fade the white out so that it is stronger in the middle of the panel but more translucent as it gets toward the edge (ig that makes sense).

And yes, with the top colour I am careful to apply thin layers until it gets to the translucency that I want, just judging by eye. In the case of the KV it took 2 thin coats.

Edited to add: I learned this technique from Andy's Hobby Headquarters channel on youtube. His channel is worth a watch.

Thanks! I follow that channel, too, and find it very enjoyable until I tire from the classical music in the build videos. A subjective thing, obviously.

I don't think I could necessarily employ this technique of thin layers with spray paint, but I will give it a try sometime. Perhaps with the T-34/76 I am building for this GB anyway.
