USS Franklin (CV13) 'The ship that wouldn't sink'. March 1945

Just had a look below deck and it looks like you've been sweeping the garage floor again 570.....very convincing, I might add. This promises to be another "masterpiece" but again no "chucking".......the present Mrs. Ron may fall out of practice if you keep this up. ;)

Ha, nice one Rick.
Just for you Bud, here's the aft deck complete with mega garage sweepings!

I've now added all the A.A. weapons too.

Some folks might notice she now sits in the 'oggin - More later......

Cheers.

I'm starting to think you look REALLY young for your age Ron! The only way you could get all these details so accurate is if you were actually there! That would put you in your mid 90s. :tongue-out2:

Looking very realistic Ron. An added bonus is you'll have the cleanest drive and garage floor around which should put you in Mrs Ron's good books.

'Big Box', you say the nicest things!

Thanks Jim. Mind you, it'll take more than those shiny two to keep the present Mrs. R. happy.....Bless!

The carrier is now afloat at a rakish angle.
I managed to find an old seascape in the loft. It had a hole in the middle from a previous occupant, so I had to cut and fit a wide strip of polystyrene in the hole and then re-cut the hole to suit Franklin.

I try and re-cycle/ re-use stuff like bases etc. where I can. I have no doubt some members will frown at such a practice - They're choice, and quite right too.

Anyhoo, here she is.

I can now get to grips with the various 'hanging bits' and do more work on the flight deck and the water too.

Then me and 453 can set fire to it!

Thanks Mick.
I don't know about "Classic", but I do know I'm having me some fun making the model!

Thanks Pete and Rick.

Pete, I'm glad you approve of my attempt to save the planet.

Rick. She went over to 15 degrees+. Not through hull damage, but from the amount of water being pumped into her guts to quell the fires below deck.

I've now added some hanging things (presumably scrambling ropes to shimmy down if abandoning the ship), rigging and deck hose pipes. I tried to find some figures, but not surprisingly I couldn't! So I made excuses for them from thin plastic card.

Nearly ready for some silicone work and add the smoke.
Rather than try and model the ship with the fires and smoke raging, and thus hiding all the aft deck, I'm going to have a bash at a sort of +1 day when the fires are under control, but still plenty of smoke....

Cheers.

I'll wrap this up now.
Here is a shot of the finished model. The defiant crew have jury rigged 'Old Glory'

I'll post up a few more pictures sometime soon over in 'Ships Completed'

Thanks to those who took the time to post great comments.

Lovely work on this one 570 :thumb2: :thumb2: I suspect the "committee" will be along shortly and I might add "well" earned Sir!!

Great stuff Ron. It must have been terrifying - for the crew I mean, not you modelling. And you've saved the planet ;)

Rick is quite right in his assumption, the Committee took one look and without any discussion all put their right hand up to signify a yes.

Well done 570, great build ,esp the back drops that you paint and that damage.
