Maybe this may be useful to some of you old Vets on here,

A while ago the governement announced it was going to start producing an actual Veterans ID card, I'm guessing it helps to put a stop to 'stolen honour' which any Vet will know is when a 'fantasist' ot 'walt' takes glory in claiming he/she actually served our country, when in fact the closest they ever came to signing on the dotted line was watching ultimate force on the T.V.

''Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Rt Hon. Johnny Mercer MP shared:
...... Veteran cards provide ex-service men and women with a tangible connection to the important contributions they have made to the defence of our nation''

Anyhow..
I like many others applied for this, and It turned up this morning.

Thanks Chris. I was aware of a roll out but wasn’t aware we had to apply.
Good prompt.

Excellent stuff Chris...
I shall look into it tomorrow, thanks mate :thumb2:

Cheers mate!
Steve (That's not a number - that's a population... !):smiling:

Well, I can't find the official online application anywhere. All it mentions on the .gov website is that it's going live in January 24 and the procedure will be announced shortly!!
Am I looking in the wrong place?

Doug,

Click on the email address at the bottom of Chris's post.

You will need to send your name, D.O.B. and year you left, you then get invited to apply... I'm waiting impatiently! :tongue-out2:

Doug, apologies if there's a bit of confusion,

follow what Lee wrote, they'll drop you an e-mail back, and if they are currently full, they'll drop you another e-mail when the next 'block' opens, honestly I waited a couple of weeks after sending the first e-mail and my 'new' invite appeared..

note: I've edited the link at the bottom of my original post to stand out a bit better... :thumb2:

Hi Lee and Chris.
No confusion really. I noticed it was an email link but thought it a bit odd that could apply that way. Especially after the Gov website stating how to apply soon would be notified on their web site. Just me not wanting to get caught in a government trap!! Had that happen way back when I tried to circumvent the official route!!!
No probs. I'll email them tonight. Need to sort out Barclaycard first!!!
OH, by the by, do you guys use the Defence Discount Service. Link to DDS A fiver for five years, lots of discounts!!!!!

They aren't taking anymore at the mo but will be in the near future but as above, DDS and Blue Light cars are always good for discounts!

Your nameUR Test
Your date of birth1970-12-25

Not seen that page before,

Maybe try this way,

send an e-mail to

DBS-Veteran-Cards@mod.gov.uk

with the following details in it,

Subject : veterans ID card
name,
year of birth,
year of leaving service,

you should then recieve an e-mail reply thanking you for your interest, and they will drop you an 'invite to apply' as soon as the next tranche opens..

Will give that a try, thanks.

Just had a reply back and the service will go live towards the end of January, and invites will be sent out.

Will give that a try, thanks.
I'm going to wait until they say it's officially rolled out. I had the same screen page as yourself Mike. I figured it was because it couldn't link to my personal .gov account so it gave a 'null' readout.
I've survived this long without one I don't see it as overly important to me personally. No med issues so no need for queue jumping (YET). I'm patient, I'll wait. I kept losing my service ID anyway!!!!! :smiling2: :smiling2: :smiling2:

True, I can wait, I waited for over two decades to discover I in fact suffered from PTSD and was not the grumpy git I thought I was, even the anger management course people refused to have me on the course after I threw their annoying alarm clock out the window, tick, tick ** tick.... (yes I did open the window).
I am not really worried about proving I served, a couple have realised their mistake in calling me a liar, amazing what memories return when putting in a set of teeth in the morning.
And when asked what I did I always reply, as little as possible, just ask the NAAFI girls....

Same, a few I have worked with were overheard gobbing off about my 'tall' tales being cobblers. So!! Prior to a shift start I sat them all down and made them watch a short video with Moi staring!! That closed down the back stabbing. Not my fault if the closest they had come to excitement was getting their comb stuck in their hair!!
As for what I did. Common knowledge us Fleet Air Arm types are laid back sun gods and the clicky sun bed was invited by the FAA!! I simply quoted Military Flying Regs, which stated 'ALL aircrew are to get 8 hours uninterrupted sleep a day'. To which I added; 'and anything they got at night was a bonus'!!!!

We dreamt of eight hours sleep - that's two days worth at least!
