how do you use nail varnish when making a pond river etc. do you pour it in or do you use the brush ?

sorry if this has been asked before but i just used nail varnish for a pond and it seemed to go well.

Hello John, have you thought about using ordinary household gloss varnish? I always use it and it does the job.....lot cheaper than nail varnish too!!!

hi there john spanner is correct gloss varnish looks good and is cheaper... however if you want actual depth to your rivers lakes etc then try pouring it in to a depth of 3mm at a time let it dry, then add other layers to suit, if you like you can colour the under layers then leave the top layer clear to add actual depth also.

also could i put pebbles at the botom then put varnish on?

Scott's method is spot on. I've seen the result!!

My method is slightly different in that I paint all the features on the baseboard where the stream is to go. Mottled browns, greens and black for any deep water. For pebbles and rocks I dab randomly with a beige or Lt. brown. Let this dry then you only need 2 or 3 thin coats of varnish and all the features of a stream will be there, pebbles and all!

Everyone finds their own way of doing things..Scott and I's are just two!!

Drying time depends on too many variables to give a diffinitive answer. Overnight is as good a time as any. Don't rush it because if not properly dry, the next coat will drag causing the first coat to dull.
