Hi this may seem a daft question but after applying a weather wash can you apply matt varnish without it making the wash run
 
Well I have not had any problems doing so.

Just dust it first coat on to tie it down first and you should be ok.

Many thanks Ian just wasn't too sure if it would run having never used a wash before
 
It depends on the wash. I leave a water based 'clay' wash for a few hours or so before a varnish. An oil based wash with turps or white spirits as the solvent,I leave at least 24 hours.
