discussion What am I doing wrong?

I wanted to finish my 1/76 aircraft control tower off with a crisp camo paint job, instead of bodging a free hand paint job I thought I'd invest in some Friskett film & do the job properly & importanly cleanly, I drew on my cmo design, cut around the shape's that needed to be airbrushed, then came my problem, it wouldn't adhere to the model, hmmm could it be just a dogby patch???? I re-drew it & tried again, same problem, I can't seem to get my Friskett Film to stick to my model, help please.

Hi Ben, can't help you with the Friskett coz I've never used it but as an alternative, how about either blu-tak or silly putty (if you can find it). They both work well as long as you keep the airbrush perpendicular to the model's surface. If you do it that way, leave the blu-tak on for an hour before spraying to allow it the chance to really settle & avoid bleeding. Patrick

hi ben , ive not used frisket but from what ive read its quite a low tack material, maybe its just not sticky enough. Try the blu tack as patrick suggests or just tamiya tape, hope this is of some use ,cheers tony

Hi Ben. I'm new to modeling but used Friskett for airbrushing onto art board years ago. Friskett is pretty low tack, does the model have a coat of paint on it already? If not, try washing it with soapy water to remove moulding grease. Sometimes a hairdryer will help soften the adhesive on the film, but could leave a sticky mess behind, probably best to test it somewhere first. As an alternative, I use paper carrier film used by signmakers when making vinyl signs for masking windows etc. Its basically like a large sheet of low tack masking tape. Let me know if you're desperate and I'll try and send you some.

Ben I think these people are right,one the Airfix control tower could have mould release attached to it,and two Frisket is really intended for use on smooth surfaces such as automobile bonnets etc the tack is almost too little for our models.

To remove manufacturers mould release mix up some washing up liquid,add a dash of meths to the water and soak for a few minutes,then dab dry with a lint free cloth.

That playdough stuff really does make good masking material,you can buy a version of it in those pound shops.

Thanks for all the advice guy's, I'e now binned the idea of using Friskett Film & opted for tracing paper, lollypop sticks & Tamiya tape, I guess my Aircraft Tower was intended to have a different camo effect, oh well, tonyb6000 I've put the peelers out for paper carrier film & I'll give that a go on my next paint job, any reccomendatios as where to buy it?
