I don't think anyone outside the hobby gets modelling. I'm off to the gym for an hour...fine. Away rugby game, I'll be out all day...fine. Oh I planned to spend a couple of hours modelling that evening....funny looks.

Heh … I basically have two hobbies: modelbuilding and roleplaying games. If you think people don’t understand the former, try explaining why you would spend time doing the latter.

Laurie, that is my excuse . I once set fire to a tarp on a Gaz truck.

This was the start, followed by a roof .

The whole 9 yards...basically everything.

I'm a bit like Richard. I tend to flit around genres, scales etc. Makes me master of none unlike those who tend to specialise in figures or planes or armour.
I am very lucky in that my wife is heavily into sewing/knitting. She makes ethnic and historical doll clothes. Just as basically useless/pointless as sticking bits of plastic together :tongue-out3:

Very lucky really Christine is very supportive and often finds things that come in handy.

Although shes once told our post lady that I lived in the shed to which she replied was the best place for men :smiling3:

Reading what Jim has said, his dear wife could maybe produce clothing for figures and save us all a lot of effort !

Which is, of course, another form of modelling, using textiles instead of plastics.

But oddly, hardly ever considered as such. Just like doll’s houses — it may not be politically correct to say so, but you could consider them to be modelling-for-women. (Yes, there are men who build doll’s houses too, just like there are women to paint figures or build plastic aircraft/tanks/cars — it’s just that in both cases, they’re a bit of a minority).

I made a doll's house when I was about 10 or 11 - it was a modern Bauhaus style, for drawings in one of my mother's woman's magazines. I finished all the woodwork and wired the lights, then gave it (unpainted) to a young female relative. No idea what happened to it after that.
