Well I certainly didn't expect so many replies to this thread and there are some very interesting answers, about what constitutes a model. It seems that everyone who has replied, agrees with each other, that whatever subject is portrayed as a model and whatever material it is made from and how it is put together, is a true model. So for those (whoever they are) have different views about modelling, then they must be living in cloud cuckoo land.
It is nice to know that whatever interests us, whether it be aircraft, ships, military vehicles, trains, civilian vehicles, sci-fi, or whatever, whether they are built as a diorama or individual, we all enjoy modelling and can share each others interests together, by showing one another our own builds and how we achieve certain results. Yes modelling comes in so many different forms and materials, from the simple models aimed for young children, to the more sophisticated scratch built ships and the like, made from bone by French prisoners of war, during the nineteenth century.
Modelling is an enjoyment we can all learn from, because it is creative and no matter how skilled we are, or complete beginners, we can all learn something on forums like this. and share each others problems and get help too if needed. And to be able to share our finished models and receive praise, makes your efforts well worth while.
