It's interesting reading and good to hear that some many people here spend most their time on this forum, too many forums are too in-personal, when I created this site I wanted it to turn out to be a friendly place for people to meet, which is what it has become, but that's not down to me, I only provided the platform for it the people here make it what it has become.
John, you may regard it as "Just a platform" but it goes further than that....

From it's conception, you have honed this site into one to be envied by other forums, and you had the balls to start off your shop from scratch and built it up to what we see today.

"The right Forum always attracts the right people".......(Bruce Forsyth 1913)

From a personal point of view, your forum has led to me meeting some great blokes, whom without S.M. I would never have had the pleasure of knowing.

So don't you go underselling yourself...!

Other forums? Yes, I did join one fairly recently. More out of curiosity really, to see how members 'interacted'......I lasted a few weeks, then made the fatal mistake of suggesting to a member how he might add to and possibly improve his model. He was very nice and positive about my suggestion, but a so called 'Expert' posted in a very rude and aggresive manner, to publicly humiliate me for my comments and writing that as a newcomer, I knew nothing.

I will never, ever make that mistake again!

It happens a lot in cyberspace. People feel that they can "talk" to someone in a way they would never do face to face.

"Do unto others" and all that.

Thankfully people here are more civil and polite than that. It doesn't cost anything as my old grandma would say. Denigrating someone's efforts or insulting their intelligence is hardly likely to encourage them to carry on with and improve their modelling, let alone keep visiting the forum!

Noone is correct all the time and noone has ever built a perfect model (not for want of trying:) ) I speak as a man who spent his Sunday trying to spray a black and red checkered tail band and make it look right! He'll be spending his Monday evening doing the same

Cheers

i myself love this place,i have looked at others but here for some reason you all have good ideas and some of you are prolific model builders, and as i`m on my second model which is belle, the first one is my spitfire which is now in the process of being made too look like the way you put your stuff on (as in used)and my good lady has said for my bday i`m allowed to buy a model from JOHNS shop (a woop woop for her indoors)so from me its this site all the way

the other 2 i access r hyperscale and Aircraft resource centre .... both have excellant galleries and hints and tips section. This site though is the only one which i use for posting comments and suggestions, asking for advice and so on ..... very interactive here and all advice is given in a constructive manner ..... rgds Lindsey

I'd second Polux, there is only one forum and it's here. As it has been said the members are such a friendly bunch and I don't think anyone feels intimidated about posting their builds as we are all at different levels. I do look at other forums as a guest I think most of us do. The thing about this forum is that everyone offers help and advice and I know that this is how I have improved over the last year. Hats off to John for starting off this forum. I only chanced upon it when purchasing an airbrush from the shop, I'm so glad I did.

I second this and would agree that this is why this is my main forum. I am a member of Flory models because I find the video and photobuilds a great help and their forum is also quite good. LSP is also a good forum I joined because I like 1:32 scale planes and is better than the average I have seen. Finescale I have not posted on and just look in now and again.

This though, as I said is my main forum and is the first one on which I will post builds or ask questions for all the reasons others have mentioned.
