discussion Which tank?

I was watching a review and build of an Eagle when the guy started talking about the sci fit modellers back in the day who would kit bash models from available shop bought kits. He went on to point out how this had been replicated on the kits. Unfortunately I had progressed slightly further on with the parts in question so couldn’t get a decent pic, anyway what do you lot think? German tank rear engine deck?

That’s a Panther engine deck, the rear is at the bottom of the photo.

Using model kit parts was very common in the 1970s/80s. A lot of Star Wars ships have recognizable parts from kits all over them, but the most extreme example is probably the Borg Cube models for Star Trek. Here’s a close-up of one:

Is that what it is? I just searched for a picture of a Panther engine deck and found this as one of the clearest shots. I did wonder about the rounded exhaust cover thing, though.

I remember watching some BBC prog in the late 70's early 80's which included one of the model prop makers ( I think a chap called Matt) who showed the sort of things he used which included plastic packaging from everything from electronics to cakes!
