discussion Wire ropes question...

A'noon Guys,
Just a quickie...
I'm in the process of painting up the wire ropes for my King Tiger,now, being made of steel strands,I expected them to be basically dirtied steel with the attachment brackets the same colour as the background camo.
...HOWEVER,on looking at many pics,some are coloured coordinated with the camo completely and some are just painted dark green?!:thumb2:
Any thoughts on what is probably the more realistic would be much appreciated :thumb2:

Like most things late war German, almost anything goes. When camo applied in the field, the cables were painted where attached, unless work in progress required their removal. Ends were likely painted the basic color (grey early, yellow late) when assembled, unsure.

Agree with Paul on this,
there's a whole can of worms regarding the colours of tools and tow ropes, but go with what you think looks O.K.

we all know just how 'random' vehicle painting got during the war, and there's nothing saying that the ropes you're working on didnt come from another (abandoned) vehicle due to the originals getting damaged or misplaced...

Again I agree with the above the ropes and pioneers tools would have been the vehicle colour. If you like you can chip the paint off to reveal the wood or steel underneath to add a bit of interest.
