I need an alternative to Woodland Scenic Cement (shown below):

Tools & Adhesives - Woodland Scenics - Model Layouts, Scenery, Buildings and Figures

This goes between $20-$30 AUS (which is $18-$27 US, 14-21 Euro and 12-18 Pounds for those who live outside of Australia) per bottle at the hobby shop in Melbourne!!

Are there any alternatives out there which are cheaper and give a similar effect?

Thanks!!

Also an alternative to the Realistic Water would be great as well!!

Water - Woodland Scenics - Model Layouts, Scenery, Buildings and Figures

Cement alternatives

What about simpe woodworking or craft acrylic adhesive? It can be watered down and can have a have a variety of materials mixed in with it, sand, woodchips, waterbased paints including powder paints, etc., etc.

If you buy the woodworking stuff, don't buy a well known name because it'll cost lots more than the craft stuff for example. Whatever you buy can be watered down so it's much cheaper to use than the actual cost may imply.

Hope this helps.

I did some research and found these:

Railroad Line Forums - Scenic Cement--Alternatives?

Scenic Cement Alternative - Forums - Model Railroader Magazine - Online Community: Forums and Galleries

- White Glue

- Water

- Detergent.

How do you get the matte finish like with Scenic Glue?

You could try a matt water based varnish added to the adhesive instead of water.

I'm only guessing here as I don't model railways but I also don't like to be or see others ripped off by paying over the odds for stuff that works without a specialist label.

Have you looked under the alternative materials thread on the forum?

There's loads of good stuff there and with a bit of initiative you should do well.
