One fact is that it is there & there it will stay and nothing will change the status quo.

How much it will be of value for the money spent I have not a clue. Probably better value than a Premiership Footballer but not in the eyes of a mother who holds a starving child in her arms.

Careful getting into a banned political frame here.

I am going to enjoy it all. Also all these events are live not television events.

Unfortunately had to miss my annual day at Lords for the test this year but it's easy to keep up online (Sky TV will never be allowed in my house)The Olympic torch will be passing within about a mile of my house, I won't be amongst the crowds to watch this international symbol of cash going down the drain. 40 odd people to accompany the torch bearers? It would've been cheaper to lay a line of £50 notes from Olympus to Greenwich and set fire to 'em

Olympics = bore-fest/the most interesting part lasts about 9 seconds, woopie

Jubilee = is that something to do with that load of camp ex-German cellebs that are all over the media like a rash?

We'll be knocked out of the Euros in the quarter finals (if we get that far)

Paralympics = see Olympics

Wimbledon = even worse, unless you're middle aged & female (come on Tim/Andy/any other no-hoper) snore ZZZZZZZZZ

Playing the Saffers on their home turf'll be tight

Can it get any better? Gordon Bennett I certainly hope so, apart from the cricket and our brief participation in the football you can keep the rest

If you're that bothered about missing any of the sleep inducing TV mentioned above get yourself a Tivo box, no need to thank me

Ok gents, time to chip in. You all appear to have missed out on mentioning the greatest annual sporting event ever, an event of such magnitude that it pushes the human body to the pinicle of death and tests the human spirit to levels of indurance that some can only try to comprehend. An event so grand that nations will be brought to a halt as their individual warriors and teams battle for victory. Yes, Im talking about.....Le Tour de France. Running from 30.6.2012 for about 3 weeks. I just love it. But before you all shout me down its a bit like F1. You need to understand whats going on to really enjoy it. Even I cant watch the full live transmissions of the stages but I do love to follow it. I genuinely believe there is no greater test of endurance than the tour. (Please dont burst my bubble by mentioning the drugs scandles)

By the way Laurie, Regarding a second tele why dont you pick up a didgi box(£10 ) and wire it through an old television. Problem solved.

Do not know much about Le Tour de France Steve.

But am captivated by the cycledrome racing. That is really exciting. Same with the rowing. Also the Triathlon with the Brownlee Brothers very exciting.

Well done Steve, I was going to mention The Tour. I've long been a fan of cycle road racing - even done a bit myself. I've been to France, Spain, Portugal and Italy to watch cycling (usually combined with a nice holiday).

Le Tour is a magnificent spectacle, and to cap it all we have the first ever realistic chance of a Brit winning the Yellow Jersey this year. Come on Bradley Wiggins! I've watched him race as a junior (under 18), and he was special then.

If anyone wants to mention doping, I would mention stones and glass houses and point them towards this:

These road race guys are hard-as-nails. Google "Johnny Hoogerland" and look at the state he was in after being hit by a TV car. He was patched up, then he got back on his bike and rode the last 36km to the finish.

Phew!!!! I can see I am amongst freinds. Your right Tony, every time i watch Johnies crash I cringe. It still shocks me to watch. How he wasnt killed I will neverr know. Ive already got my tour pack and am all clued up ready to go. I wonder if this years tour can match the excitement of 2010 and 2011. What crackers. Only two days to go.

Be interesting to see how Mark Cavendish gets on in team sky and like you say " Bradley Wiggins for overall GC"? Absolutely.

Nonsense, Colin! I bet the people of east London have been crying out for a new velodrome for years! :grinball2:Keith

In reality the whole of London and the South East is crying out for a velodrome. At the moment there is only a crumbling, outdoor Victorian-era facility at Herne Hill. It's a good track and is full to bursting with riders of all ages at the weekends - weather permitting, but the services there exist out of portakabins because the buildings are unsafe. No-one can afford to fix them or demolish and replace them, because they are listed.

The world-class velodrome in Manchester is a huge success, and very busy. So, from the point of view of a cyclist, the Olympics will leave an excellent legacy in London. What happens to the other facilities, God only knows.

Yes the lagacy from the Olympics is going to be good. Perhaps not the money investment which will show some return in more money who knows.

But not only the Velodrome which is great. Look to Weymouth/Portland which has fine facilities for water sport. 900 young people on on the books already to learn watercrafts down there.

Loads of other sports which are attracting young people. Archery, tennis, hockey & a whole host of interest for young people. All healthy & for me much better than feeding football teams with money they then throw at foreign players. Invest in the youth & they will repay time & again each generation.

You are right Steve. Been watching the progress of Bradley Wiggins & he is doing well as the French must be cringing at the moment.

No doubt about it Britain is going through a gold patch with some great athletes in all directions of sport.

Sorry Aussies but England are just magic at at present with the cricket. Hope this continues with the South Africans.

Tennis great from Andy Murray even if he came second in the world at Wimbledon ! Seems a good position to be.

Great rowing achievements recently. All very exciting.

Football rubbish but there you go. Just all about money.
