Please can anyone tell my why WW2 REME regiments used large stars similar to American markings.
 
i believe it wasnt just REME...the large white star was the Allied symbol in Europe

Paul's correct it was supposed to be applied to every vehicle but a lot of front line units painted them out as it made a excellent aiming point for enemy gunners
