How come I can't find any dioramas of Vietnam war? I was thinking of attemping one. Can anyone recomend a good Huey kit? Preferably a slick. I have seen a crew from Dragon so there should be a kit to go with it! Maybe it's the thought of modeling the rotor wash that puts people off!

Hi Tony, a few people make Vietnam dio's-Verlinden makes a lot of figures from that era so they must be popular! For Hueys, there are 1/35 kits from Dragon, Academy & Hobbyboss I think, plus I remember an old one from Monogram though that was a gunship I believe. If it was my money, I'd go for the Academy kits, they have a good rep. Patrick

Hi Tony , good shout mate a vietnam dio is on my long list of stuff to do eventually , anyway if its 1/35 scale your talking about - Netmerchants do a Dragon Huey for around £40 , its worth a look it and might be what your looking for.

Hope this helps

Cheers Patrick. Have scared myself with the rotor wash idea now! Will check out the Academy Huey. I guess there wasn't really much armour in that conflict until late in the game, and there's all that jungle to model... Was also considering an Iraq scene, as I just read Sniper One, and then I saw the T-55 Enigma conversion kit by Accurate Armour, that is one mean looking tank! It would be tempting to have one lording it over their burnt out T-55 conversion kit. Stop me now, that's already over £100!

lol sorry Richy, but I'd been checking out helo's on ebay just before Tony's post! And don't forget, not all of Vietnam was jungle-there's paddy fields, mountains & lowlands. Maybe even a building scene like in Apocalypse Now when the woman blows up the chopper? Put away that credit card-keep it simple! Patrick

Mmmm, going to be my mantra from now on. Well, when I have bought an airbrush, a decent range of paints, insulated my mini shed to make a workshop, built up a decent stash, got some more tools then it will become my mantra....

I carry my modeling kit around in a shoebox! I just read 'Chickenhawk' by Robert Mason. Great read for accurate Huey history. Great scene in it where they land the hueys in a river to wash down the decks after medevacs. Local children come and sell them cans of Coke. That might be the one for the dio. Would like to try water.

i would go on hanants and buy the academy heavy huey hog for £20 because it comes with a gunner crew and the detail is superb
