Ok, got the airframe together, fit was real good it will just need a small scrape of filler here and there.
Next was everyone's favourite job......canopy masking, not something I relish but I think I'm getting a bit better, and faster, at it.
Tried the Canopy pieces on dry and they look like a nice fit, looking forward to getting some paint on soon. M

Things are moving on a bit with this build now. Canopy on, it was a little tricky as there are quite a few clear parts to stick together but its on.
Gave it it a coat of the cockpit interior colour so the inside frame of the canopy matches the inside of the cockpit.
Did some pre-shading on the underside of the aircraft, I've tried this before but usually obliterate this with any further coats of paints, so far I think its ok but I think I'll need another light coat of the grey so we'll see how it is after that.
I've also sprayed some Alclad Airframe Aluminium in patches where I plan to try some salt chipping. That will my first try at that technique so should be interesting.
The picture of the wheels is because they are painted in Tamiya rubber black instead of plain old matt black, I don't know how many of you guys use this rubber black paint I don't know if I can spot much difference, what do you think?
Next is one more light coat of grey on underside then salt chipping,
Michael

Got a bit more done this evening, stuck some different size salt crystals to the model with water then gave the top of the plane a coat of Tamiya XF 13.
I made sure the surface was completely dry by giving it a light pass with the hair drier. I'm not sure about how this is going to come out and am beginning to wish I'd done a test....too late for that now, I'll let the paint dry completely then brush off the salt.
Keeping my fingers crossed, M

OK, rubbed off the salt. Some of the paint has discoloured, I think it is where the water was applied to stick the salt, I think it looks ok.
It's quite difficult I think to get the chipping at the right scale if you know what I mean, but the effect is great, it was also hard to know how much salt to sprinkle, practice make perfect I guess.
One thing I did not do was salt chipping to the propellers, I painted them way back when waiting on the P.E. I'm also unsure if the props are ali or wood, if wood of course I'll have to think again re weathering. Anyone got an idea what they are made of?
I'm going to put a gloss coat on now for the decals. M
