Thank you Scottie, Jim, Richard and Neil.
Very experimental at the moment. The results are as new to me as what you guys are seeing. So many references show the desert in many colours during the latter part of the day as the sun begins to set casting long shadows which I will artificially paint on the base... something that I have not done before. Fingers crossed.

The experiment seems to have worked with paper masks...
I had to create the shadow using an ordinary lamp bulb traced on typewriting paper placed flat and marked out the edges and dimensions of the base. LED lights didn't create the sharp shadows I needed...the ordinary bulb was more successful. The curvature and the cotton wool dust was the main hindrance in maintaining a flat surface for the mask...in future a pre shadow might work better since the colours sprayed was very diluted.
The snakes shadow is done with creative license because at that angle it just looked like a piece of rod. Now it looks like Godzilla about to bite the Bedouins foot. All the highlights and colours you see are airbrushed...no hairy stick work yet as I used top lighting for this shot.
I am quite happy with the outcome and will now add in more highlights and shadows to the landscape.

Thank you Scottie, Neil, Stefan and Jim for commenting.
I love it when a plan comes together. Now I better start on painting the figures...that's the make or break of the vignette. The sooner I get it done the better as I had just dropped the Bedouin and his vest broke in two places...easily fixed after some censored explatives.
