Tim and John - Thank you.
The main part of the figure is now finished:

The coat skirts were done wet-on-wet to try and get smooth transitions between the light and dark of the folds. The highlights were more easily built up dry in increasingly lighter layers.Comment

Morning Peter
Super work on the greatcoat and all the field grey.
It does look good and the drapery is so well sculpted.
I can see why it has been so much fun to paint.
Perhaps with your cabinet review, you could challenge yourself to find 1 good thing you like about each piece to try and balance being drawn to what you think are faults?
Just a way to balance the bad with the good.
Have a good day with all those accessories

Andy - Thank you. Why not give it a go?
Steve - With the greatcoat done I can now have fun with detailing the equipment. My aim with the cabinet sessions is to try and look at my work objectively and not see the faults, and I think the best thing to do now is to not look for a while and try and develop a fresh eye. Unfortunately for me I came across a flawless version of this figure on the internet, where the painter had even added a stippled wool texture to the entire greatcoat, and it made me realise how far I had to go. We strive.....Comment

Jim - We'll see....
I've now painted and attached the equipment at the back and added the hands:
I've also softened down some of the tonal transitions on the face.Comment

Morning Peter
Great work on the bits and pieces so far.
After your comments about stippled wool texture, I did have a web search too.
I can't say I found anything that was way above your work at all, they all seemed, at best, to only be as good, but I might not of found the one you did?
Perhaps try stippling a texture on a scrap figure to see if it is worth the extra effort?
Looks like the finishing line is in reach and then the search for the next victim
Have a good day with the MG

Morning Steve
Glad you like how he's going. Stippled wool would drive me mad and is definitely not why I do this stuff. The example I've seen is exquisite though - the modeller has added a new head and pared down all of the lumpy detail. I can't copy pictures of it to here as it's on a private site. I'm happy with the way this one is going though. I should get him finished today.Comment

Steve and Andy - Thanks for looking in.
He's now finished:
Today's session involved the painting and attaching of the tool pouch, holster, grenade and the MG42. A strap was then made for the latter, then the greatcoat was weathered with pastels.Comment
