Has anyone else cottoned on to the fact that the Shackleton is the most recent example of aircraft to be withdrawn from RAF service. There are no post Cold War aircraft. Four new additions have been made to the RAF fleet - Voyager, Airseeker, Kingair and Chinook HC4/6 - and the F-35 is in the pipe yet Airfix haven't produced a modern aircraft in this announcement.
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

I'll definitely be tempted by the shackleton , ive got fond memories of seeing 'the Growler' at the RAF Finningley airshows in the 70's and 80's, it was about time someone did a new tooling of this , the Frog mould has been around for yonks!! Tony

Well, I've just caved and bought the Dornier Do17z & Paul Defiant Dogfight Doubles: http://www.airfix.com/catalog/product/view/id/8414/

We know the Dornier is a New Tool as it was released barely a month ago, but the re-released Paul Defiant makes no mention of New Tooling so will be interesting to see how this turns out!

I have to say (and I know I'm going to get shot down for this, but saying it anyway!), the Paul Defiant looks a lot like a Hurricane with a turret slapped into the fuselage, and we've see new tooling Hurricane's this year :-p

The dogfight double might just be old tool mate I bought a dogfight double with a 109g6 and spitfire MkVb and they were both old tool , and if you look at the price it might just be a way of clearing the old stock

They might be new tool mate I don't know but I thought I'd just mention it so your prepared

I did think about that, but they've not sold a Dornier for years and now they've got a New Tool, why would they bother moulding an old one just for this kit! It's the Dornier I really want, the Defiant is just a bonus :-)

With the New Tool Dornier being £17 (http://www.airfix.com/dornier-do17z-1-72.html) and the cheapest Defiant being £8 (http://www.airfix.com/catalog/product/view/id/8392/) then £22 for the doubles pack sounds about right.

Of course, I am applying common sense and should find out when it arrives, but if it's not the New Tool Dornier I will not be amused - I have reference pics of the sprues so I'll find out quickly enough!

None of the current Dogfight Doubles include old-tool kits, so it's a pretty safe bet that this will include both the new-tool Defiant and Dornier. The fact that this set needs to be pre-ordered also suggests this, as the new Defiant isn't yet available.

Mine did and it's a current one in the red box both kits are old tool with raised panel lines and bent fuses and no detail canopies I only bought it about two months ago ,

The reason it might be is the price , £21.99 for two new kits and one costs £16.99 on its own but I could be wrong and if I am ill get one of these as its a bargain

I'm not sure this is true. Airfix states that this is New Tool: http://www.airfix.com/supermarine-spitfire-mkvb-messerschmitt-bf109e-dogfight-doubles-gift-set-1-48.html

But don't mention this one: http://www.airfix.com/spitfire-mkia-and-messerschmitt-bf109e-4-dogfight-doubles-gift-set-1-72.html

Which probably means the 1/72 one isn't New Tool...

Both the Spit and 109 in this DD set are new-tool. It's possible Alan bought an old DD in a new-style box, perhaps old stock in the store, from before Airfix re-tooled the 109G, and they've yet to do a new tool Spit V. AFAIK, all of the currently listed Dogfight Doubles include the latest toolings of the aircraft.

Ah, I was duped by this very box - is that the one with Neville Duke's Spitfire? Says on the back of the box. If so, I attempted that with this build: http://www.scale-models.co.uk/community/threads/under-construction-me-bf109e.28697/

As you can see, it did not go well and I have yet to attempt the Spitfire...
