          Well Laurie....

Just quite more difficult for you then...which is the plane, which are his markings and numbers, period and location, and the last one...has the plane the fuel tank full..?

Oh that is naughty Polux. All I know about German war Machines is that they kept coming and knocking at my door.

It could be the Spanish Civil War which I assume is where he started. I would guess about when my mum was tending me in the cradle. 1938

Could it be a 109. Certainly German by the angular type cockpit design.

            STB JG51.

Fuel tank. As they were by the look of it arming the aircraft I would say the tank is full.

How is that from a rooky.

Molders. Spain. 6-79 'Luchs' (Lynx)?. It also had a cartoon character which I can't remember in front of the numbers (I'm trying not to cheat). Probably 1937 and a Bf 109 but I'd have to look up the sub type, usually given as a D-1 IIRC There is considerable confusion about the Spanish 109s.

                Cheers

Well look at that Polux a rooky and I got quite a few right. Told you Steve would know.

Cheating .Yes I did. Apologies Werner. Right click the picture and save and the file name appears. Such dishonesty.

Hope we can continue. And thanks Steve a very interesting bit of fun and brain racking.

A man who I thought was a great aviator certainly not a Johnson Molders etc.

I've cheated now and the 3./J 88 emblem was Mickey Mouse carrying a revolver.

I can't see the fin so it's difficult to be sure of a date, Molders had seven victories by late 1938. He arrived in Spain in late May.

                      Location? I'd guess La Cenia.

Thinking about Laurie's Hurricane...I've seen that aeroplane somewhere before....Malta?...I'll get back to you

Doh! Spotted the pennant under the cockpit. It's Keith Park's Hurricane whilst he was AOC Malta. Now I can see his distinctive white flying helmet too!

BTW if Park doesn't belong in a list of famous aviators I don't know who does.

                        Cheers

The moustache looks like Bleriot, but not the flying helmet.

Spain is where he developed the fighter tactics and formations which proved so successful very soon thereafter in WW2.

The so called 'Spaniards' exerted a disproportionate and not always positive influence on the Luftwaffe in the early years of the war.

                                Cheers
