Rail to London from Norwich isn't too bad, but cross country to the midlands and north is dreadful.
The train from Norwich to Liverpool is totally unsuitable, crowded, slow and no refreshments.
On the other hand there is a non electrified line to Cambridge which is very pleasant.

Perhaps it's remoteness and being off the motorway network is why it maintains it's charm. It is fair old trek coming in on the A47 via Kings Linn on towards Costessy (prounounced locally as 'Cossie', I only made that mistake once). From the south there's the A11 and A140 from Ipswich (considered a swear word in Norfolk) from over the border in Suffolk, also known as 'Mordor'! Ha!

You've got me reminiscing about my times in and around Norfolk, I'm sure I speak on behalf of all members here when I say we are eagerly awaiting receiving invites to your house warming party!

Just don't use Evri as your invitations courier Ha!

Best of luck with the move Paul , lovely area youre going to . As a haulage driver I always love it when I get to go east , its just such a nice change on the A17 and A47 ( unless of course you get behind a combine or tractor !) , beats pounding the Motorways down south . Plus theres the added delight of getting punnets of local strawberries and cherries for sale in the lay bys in summer ! Sounds like it will be a great choice for you both , as for the name - you’ll just have to change it to PaulinNorwich !

            Thanks all.

We've done the trek from Kendal to Norwich a good few times now, and we find the second half of the trip, on the A47 and A17 a real pleasure - so much nicer than motorway driving, and dual carriageway work aids concentration, rather than the mind-numbing effects of motorway driving.

On our most recent trip we went to have a chat with our prospective new neighbours and found them to be a thoroughly friendly lot, many of whom had lived there for many years - a sure sign it's a great place to live.
