I vote yes as sometimes I don't have the time to reply but agreeing or giving credit for a great build is so easy with the icons icons, I can't speak for everyone but I only give a great build if I think it warrants one so don't think I over use it.

I think this has more to do with your personal mission to help if you think someone needs it , I get the feeling you think you can't post if people have given it a great build gong

I would say to anyone who thinks this way that you can post what you like in any of my builds no matter how many great builds doodabs it has.
        Absolutely not at all Alan!

My point is simply to avoid people clicking on the icon & just saying 3 or 4 words in their comment.

And I don't have a " personal mission ", just a desire to share knowledge.

Maybe the wrong choice of wording using personal mission, I appologise if you took it in the way it wasn't too ,

If you want to share knowledge then right a piece in the 'how too ' section then if you see a build that you could help with you could put a link to it then the person will know it's there if they need it .

What a muddle Ian. All the gongs have disappeared in the finished models. All that is left are LIKES.

As said we English are good at making a mess of perfectly working systems.

If you get rid of Gongs surely you must also get rid of Likes as it is just not logical. New members are going to wonder what is going on.

Ha Ha Laurie made a funny.

I can with hand on heart say it was not me that chopped down the cherry tree....

It would seen that there is a strong movement to bring them back and I am in the process of talking to John about it.

If, mark my word. IF they come back, there will be less of them and they will be monitored. Any over use or miss-use will be moderated, just like persistent use of "funny pictures" to make a point.

Should they make a come back ALL the counters will be reset so we all start from zero. In fact If I could, I would by pass the counter and then there is nothing "competitive" about them at all.

And if any one is interested I voted yes.

Also Laurie, while we are about it, I think that the English thing to do would be to 'tut' and go make a cup of tea.

This is far from a dictatorial state. and not that much of a democratic one either, it is more a private enterprise, foremen making sure that the floor runs well and the bosses that have to make choices. Every once in a while one of the bosses will make a quick decision, which a few do not like and all hell breaks out. Regardless of the countless good ones that have been made before.

I think we should have them......... I don't use them much. But people do use them and it's a personal choice whether to use them or not. Having choices is what makes us different to North Korea.....

Lol but correct. Give us a few gongs to rate models, sometimes I don't comment because I don't want to just say Not bad and not contribute more to the thread and a like or gb is my way of saying that I looked, I took the time to appreciate and I didn't bloat the thread with something not worthwhile

I voted yes, it's up to the individual to decide whether or not they use the icons, it's mainly one of the reasons I prefer this site to the other sites that are out there.

What a superb forum this is, a balanced debate. I agree with points on both sides, the gongs can be an easy cop-out in some cases, although it can be confusing-I gave one if I liked it. I do not feel I am a good enough modeller to offer advice hence the gongs. But, the guys are correct that a message giving advice crit etc is most valuable.

No mods being Gods. No members kicking off. Goes to show you how a good forum does and can work.
