Wasn't it a rickety old biplane? The big unveiling of the new Thunderbird turned out to be a bit of an embarrassment for Brains!

TB6 was a biplane. If I remember the film Brains spent the whole time coming up with designs for specialist vehicles that kept being rejected and in the end they needed a light vehicle with lowspeed and minimal engine wash to land on top of an airship. But I cannot remember what the problem with the airship was.

It was circling while Thunderbirds arrived and set up Thunderbird 2. The tension was unbelievable as the fuel in Fireflash got lower and lower. Out of TB 2's pod came these flat topped trucks with around eight massive wheels and a flat bed on top. They accellerated up the runway and of course Fireflash timed it's landing to perfection and dropped it's nose on the trucks. The trucks were nothing like I'd ever seen before. They were grubby, they smoked, they looked real, the engine noises were out of this world as they accelerated up to the required speed to match the ever decending Fireflash and it was all absolutely breathtaking. I was hooked on modelling from that day forth, which must be something like over fifty years ago.
Those flat topped trucks were the best models I ever remember the Andersons making and boy would I love to see one now!

and I even found it on Youtube. I remember now there was a bomb in the landing gear so they couldn't use it. I kid you not it brings a tear to my eye now watching it.

Brilliant ........... I remember that episode so well ........... and don't forget the music / soundtrack.

I also used to enjoy the tops the ladies used to wear in the submarine thing in UFO

Konami did miniature of all the thunderbirds and the pod vehicles with little Dioramas I have some toy stash will dig the out and take some pictures.

Also does anyone remember Star fleet?

Some have mentioned terrahawks, I liked nothing about this show sadly as it looked like they went backwards with the puppets and the vehicles but each to their own

Was star fleet the Japanese puppet show ? If it's the one I'm thinking of that was very good although not as good as Gerry Anderson

Yeah star fleet was the Japanese one used to be on on Saturdays before the wrestling on ITV

Had a set of 3 ships that joined together to make a big red robot. All the bad guys had some king of insect theme.

So how many of you are old enough to remember the first one, Torchy the Battery Boy? What about Four Feather Falls? Come on guys dig deep!!

The Andersons have always been heros to me, simply modelling and creative genius. From what I remember Terrahawks was a return to pure puppetry again after frustrations with the challenges of working with actors in the more recent series such as captain Scarlet and Space 1999. Unfortunately it never returned to the purity of the concept of Thunderbirds, Stingray, Fireball XL5 etc. For me the pinacle was Thunderbirds.

You will never guess what I found rooting through eBay the other night?

I didn't even know such a thing existed! I bought it immediately and boy was I pleased with myself. I also watched the whole "Thunderbirds are Go" movie last night and really enjoyed it. It was all years ahead of its time.

Thats nicely done from balsa, Pete. I can remember my first non kit tank being made from Gillette blade containers, paper and rattan.

                                Cheers,
