internet explorer back button not working

this question is mainly for john but wondering if anyone else is having the same trouble.when i veiw a page or post and have finished reading it,i then click on the back button and nothing happens.if i click the little drop down history button it shows 2 or 3 pages relating to "googleads.g.doubleclick.net". i reinstalled google search and tried again, but it happens everytime i look on this site.it is really annoying when veiwing lists of posts and i have to click the back button 3 or 4 times and then end up on the wrong page......any idea's?

btw i have run lots of different virus/ malware scans and am 99.9% sure its not a virus/malware/adware

Does it do it on other browsers? I would try clearing your cache once you have done that press F5 that will force a reload of the page see if that fixes it.

Try upgrading to IE9, IE8 does have quite a few bugs in

There was a known problem with googleleads/adsense & vbullitin a while back. but I thought it had been sorted. (search for "googleleads double-click" for more info)

As john suggested try IE9, or failing that try another browser. Firefox. Safari, Chrome or Opera are all decent.

Not a cure for your problem Andy, but instead of using the back button in IE to get back to the home page, click on the "Top" button at the bottom of each thread page. That will take you to the top of the page and you can use the "Find posts" button to get to the next thread.

cannot install ie9 as i am running win xp. it seems that it is definatly an issue with google adsense. every time the ad changes or rotates,i have to click the back button for the same number of times. seems like a lot of people are experiencing the same issue on the web but i cannot find a fix because its all a bit beyond me. have installed all windows updates and such like, really doing my head in now. it is amazing how something so small and trivial can get so annoying.if i click the history button there are 2 or 3 entries for "http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/page" in between every page or post on this site. one possible fix was to change the hosts file but this did not work for me.

Give google chrome a go, you might like it, and you can always uninstall it if you don't. If you only ever use it for the forums at least it gets you easily round your problem.

This is a problem because the google ads are being loaded into the page using an iframe, which is like a smaller web page buried inside the main webpage. The bug in IE is that when the ad reloads, it puts itself into the browser history so that when you click back you have to navigate back through all of them.

                          Solution: install Chrome or Firefox.

I use Firefox all the time as it has some wonderful add ons that block all tracker cookies (ie nobody can see where I've been) and also AdBlock, which blocks all ads in a webpage (sorry John ). I am a web developer by profession so I have to know all these stupid quirks - Internet Exploder makes our lives a bloody misery!

I found Chrome to be fast but it made a horrible mess of some web pages. I use Firefox on my PCs, not perfect but it does the job most of the time. It's about a million% better than IE anyhow

Installing software on the work PC is not an option unless I feel the need for lots of leisure time and very little cash :bigmistake:

                              Sorry Andy,

The comment about switching to Chrome was really aimed at phalinmegob. I wasn't suggesting you install it at work, lol.
