Do modelers have a discernable style

Hi all a thought just struck me, if you look at famous artists a lot of their work is almost aways instantly recognisable,  like van gough or rembrant or constable I wondered if amongst modelers it was the same (I don't mean we're famous) but the artists work is recognised because we've all seen them lots and had the names associated with them. So some of us who've been on here a while I thought maybe might be able to look at a build in progress without the name and know who was building it, then i thought what a cool experiment (not sure how we could do it)  but if we could get x number of modelers to start and build a model with a wip without their name displayed, then for us to work out who's building it by their build style and finish.

Dose anyone else think this is a cool idea.

Sounds a good idea although I'm not sure we could tell them apart, as myself I tend to copy certain ideas and tips from other members would be interesting though. Jim

It is an interesting idea, and I think you could certainly narrow the field down by size and subject (unless someone like Barry suddenly builds 1/72 AFV instead of a 1/32nd aircraft).  There is also a tendency to heavily weather or not which gives a clue.

You see this is my point, you have already pointed out a couple of things to separate styles, I think it could be a lot of fun, although we would have to stipulate no one changes their style to cheat

I reckon I could pick out a tank done by Monica from her style...

However, either everyone who took part would have to set up a new account which might be off-putting

Is there not a way of posting as a guest or something.

I'll probably come to regret this but here goes...

another way could be that those that want to post could send a picture to my email and then I could post them up in a thread.

if you do I must ask that you keep the photo a reasonable size and only send maximum three pictures per mail. PM me for the address if you want to play. Don't forget to include your user name in the message.

Ian you are a star for volunteering.

One thought we could make it a Christmas quiz, those who want to take part email pictures as stipulated to Ian by mid-December, they are put on the site numbered before Christmas and everyone can spend the Christmas holidays guessing who built what.

The delay in posting would give people time to build something that has not been already been seen on the site if they wanted.  Doesn't have to be a new build, just one you have not already shared on this site.

That also gives Ian and everyone else a clear cut-off for sending pictures.

One negative thought is that too far off?

Following the group build discussion, should we call for interest and only go ahead if at least 6 of us commit to send pictures in.  Otherwise it is unfair on Ian

I would be happy to help if there is a way to spread the workload.

Patrick just posted whilst I was typing this so please ignore if there is a dreadful lesson from history.

Thanks Ian I hope it's not too much work I think it would be a good idea as suggested only to start if x number of people do agree to join in.

That would be good.  It would be fun if we could get around ten or more to take part but I don't think it's crucial. But the more the  better.

No dreadful lesson Dave, just a lack of people reading the rules which led to some confusion & irritation! I fear poor Ian might be taking on an unexpectedly heavy burden....

That sounds easier on poor Ian and easier all round.
