I have often thought the same thing Richard, the answer lies with those that suddenly put new laws forward without consulting those that really care, little men in parliement bring forth restrictive measures and the yes men agree to them,it is the same as the do-gooders in our society who think that prisoners should be the same as everone else, even allowing them to do the lottery ticket is wrong in my humble opinion, prison and its punishment should mean just that,no in between.

Nine times out of ten a new law comes in that nobody was even consulted about ? why do they get away with it is anyones guess, the public should come first but they are not really considered.

The law as they say is an ass, with the judges dishing out 'Dont be a naughty boy' penalties it is little wonder the countrey is in such a mess.

What is needed is a good cross section of the public to be consulted, and nothing to go ahead until something is finalised in great detail, with emphasis on protecting the good living honest public.

Why is it when you open up such issues to a group of people everyone seems to agree yet we all have to live with laws we don't agree with?!!!We all seem to have to live with the requirements of the noisy minority who are slowly and steadily completely screwing up society for everyone else.

Compensating prisoners is a joke and a classic example of a ridiculous situation that only a very small minority of do-good mindless morons who need to obtain gainfull employment would support.

Cant sleep so downloaded a movie called Flyboys off a BT site. I have to say it is one of the best WW1 movies I have ever seen. The flying scenes were outstanding! Cant wait to see it on the big screen. If you get the chance to see it, dont miss it.

These links were posted on another forum. I did enjoy them as the DH Mosquito is one of my all time favourite planes. I shall have to get working on a kit I have. Hopefully this winter.

I would find it very difficult to chose between a Spitfire or a Mossie as my all time most beautifull aircraft.

Absolutely stunning video, thanks for the link.

            Some 'Flyboys' trivia-

            Filmed at R.A.F Halton,UK.

Replica Nieuport 17 aircraft built in the USA.

All aircraft sold to collectors once the film had been made.

After a taxying accident the original flimsy replicas were scrapped and proper airworthy machines built, this delayed the film production for a while.

I want the DVD but have not seen it locally in the shops yet?

Well yesterday would of been my dads and ingrids 2nd year wedding aniversary so we had a glass of champagne and i had one of my dads favourite cigars. King Edward. Then i went to his car and revved his engine which i enjoyed doing. Today i went to work and had arguments with customers as they thought they knew best. I arrived home to a mexican chicken dinner thanks to ingrid.

Well today was my last visit to the pond until the middle of March. Very sad.

Luckily there was a window in the bloody awfull weather so I got a chance to sail my yacht and took the Envoy tug out to try out it's new smoke maker.

The smoke maker looks superb but it seems to be interfering with the receiver when I get more than a few feet away. A bit disconcerting when it goes charging across the pond at full ahead. I had to stick my hand in front of it to stop it hitting the side which nearly broke my hand!!

Anyway it is undergoing investigation and it may require a phone call to JJC tomorrow.

Apart from that a successfull morning. Very brisk winds so the yacht proved to be quite a challenge. When it gets too fresh it basically goes where it wants so keeping away from the island becomes a prime concern.

Back home and start to tidy things up. I am not going to do any more modelling now as I want to get the workshop tidied up and things put away and ready for another three months on thier own.

Bangers and mash for tea, bangers from our local farm shop, which are superb, and mash with parsnip for a bit more flavour. Thick onion gravy and veg and a wonderfull evening meal with the rain lashing the windows and the gales howling around the house.

This evening we watched "Doctor at Large" on cable and continued to moan about how things have changed since 1957!! A large Gin and Tonic was 4/4 (about 22p!!)

Another thread mentions lost waste bins. For the last three weeks due to gailes, other than the odd few hours. The wheelie bins have been relocating. Quite a mix of snow, melt, more snow and melt. I am pleased it has remained at mostly above 2500ft other than one day down low. On another forum a lad from the Aviemore area has spoken of extreme winds on the Cairgorms, in excess of 100mph.

My new insulation really is working, the whole house is warmer with less heating being needed. Having replaced poor door-frame edgings, I am now at the stage of undercoating the sanded down woodwork in the up and down halls and the stairs, I really will be relieved when I have completed the painting and the new carpets are down.

I will then have a chance to do something usefull like building a new plane or two. Or three:grinball2:

Boring this is, yet I now see the end of the current decorating spree approaching. A coat of gloss paint now applied with the hope I have done it well, so that only the one coat will be needed. The walls will be much faster to do with emulsion. The big problem is that the new brightness is already indicating further decorating is about to be put to me:shutup3: in a way I will find dificult to argue against. I just gotta be :strong:

Well sat in my seat/bed(posh end!) on the Jumbo as we jet our way back to Orlando is as good a time as any to reflect on my last leave and get my head around the requirements of the next contract.

The most significant event for a lot of us must have been the passing away of NigelD which certainly put a halt on the usually upbeat mood of just arriving home. It took the wind out of my sails and affected me more than I would have ever thought possible. Nigel was an integral part of this forum and I still find myself writing notes and postings thinking about what his reaction would be to it when he read it. There always was one, and I was usually not too far off the mark with my expectations. Nigel was a gem and his generosity, enthusiasm, drive and energy will be missed.

I even bought a copy of a magazine by the name of Model Aircraft Monthly which contains a very in depth review of Nigel’s favourite plane, the Sea Fury, including some superb colour drawings of it. Nigel would have loved it.

I also had to finish off this leave with another sad bit of news more personal to me. A friend I have known for nearly fourty years and who has been a part of my life for all that time had a stroke a few weeks ago and I went to see her in hospital the day before yesterday. To see someone who has always been such a lively and energetic character, full of chat, stories and news reduced to a semi paralised helpless person, confined to a hospital bed and not able to even speak leaves such a powerful memory that I now find it hard to shake off. Only last leave she took myself and Annette out to a new local park for a walk around the beautifully manicured beds after a pub lunch and an update on the family gossip. Life goes on but it certainly does not seem to get any easier. Her daughter now spends a lot of her time travelling up and down the M6, in this weather and at this time of year and with the arrorant and aggressive drivers sharing the road with her I find it all to easy to slip into “Why are we here” mode. I am sure there must be a reason but it escapes me at the moment.

On the modelling front the Ben Ain progressed nicely although not a tremendous amount to show for it at the end of the day. I sincerely hope that when I get off the detail work of the bridge area it will actually progress a bit quicker but it seems to be a bit of a slow progress at the moment. I keep telling myself I want to put it on the water again for a run and to generate some enthusiasm but there is rather a lot of bare wood on it at the moment and if it was to get wet and warp I could end up destroying weeks of work. I must be patient. I did try the boiler plant on the bench at one point but the engine was very sticky and uncooperative so that obviously needs a bit of attention before it ventures out into the middle of the pond!

My three yachts proved to be an interesting purchase. One, an Ebay win for £77.00, is huge and won’t see water for a long time. It is basically sound but it does need a lot doing to it before it goes on the water. I don’t want anything else to distract me from the steamer at the moment so it is back of the queue for now. Another Ebay item was a restored Whitby Gaff rigged Sloop. A bit of a struggle on the water as it has been carved from solid pine and the restoration job hasn’t produced the best sail configuration so she needs some attention to get her running well. The final purchase was from a fellow club member and that is a beauty. It is a plank on frame Bermuda rig, just over 29 inches long and sails superbly. It is a perfect boat to learn the intricacies of sailing and has opened my eyes to the differences between sail and motor.

Finally just before I left the cooler climate of Yorkshire I also bought a ready made and RC converted Revel Snowberry Corvette. I will probably do a bit of a paint job on her but not much more and then sail her with the U-boat. They should look good together on the pond but, once again I don’t want to take on another big distracting job.

I actually did get around to doing one job in the house that has caused a certain degree of merriment for the last six and a half years. When we had the house built we asked for all sorts of additional electrical fittings, one of which was two cables on the alcove walls in the lounge to fit wall lights to. Since then ideas have changed and we are now only going to use one as there is a flat TV in the middle of the other wall so that cable will now have to be buried. Doh!! The thing that put me off, of course, was the fact that the cable exited the wall far too low so I had to channel out the wall to relocate it then fill it all in again and smooth the job over. However I finally got around to fitting a picture light to it and we went to a local art shop to sort out a set of three pictures to display below it. Now all I have to do is bury the cable on the other side and bury the cables that feed the flat TV. Now that isn’t going to be quite as easy.

Just an interesting note on ‘Sod’s Law’. We didn’t get the last two pictures until the last day of my leave, Tuesday, and I make a point of never doing any work on the last day. Putting a picture up can’t harm anything though can it? The first went up perfectly but on the last tap of the picture hook nail a spark shot off it and the house went dead. I could have wept!!! What the hell is a cable doing slap bang in the middle of an alcove wall? IEE Regs clearly state that sockets should be fed from below and lighting circuits should be fed from above. There should be no cable running the length of an internal wall. Unfortunately we have a nice neat idea in our house whereby in the lounge and dining room we have a number of sockets which look like the old type of 5 amp round pin plug socket. The idea is that they are to be used to supply light fittings only as they are fed from the light circuit and switched from the door. Consequently the cable for these goes the length of the wall to feed the socket. What is the chance of putting a 0.5mmsquare pin into 100 square feet of bloody wall and going into the cable? Anyway I pulled it out and everything is OK so it can stay like that. I am certainly not pulling the thing out of the wall to repair it!! So that picture got two hooks!!

So back to the ship tomorrow and back to work as though I have never been home. Another leave that passed so quickly I blinked and missed it. At least this time we have Christmas to get our heads around and with Annette and my Mum joining me for the festivities the time should pass reasonably quickly at the beginning of the trip. I guess it’s time for a couple of Christmas quizzes again. It doesn’t seem like two minutes since the last ones though even though they were a year ago.

I have been busy writing/composing & recording new tunes too and some of those will be appearing online shortly. Plodding on.

These past few weeks have been spent installing miniature systems into some electric models, these are my little fun type aircraft that can be placed into the back of the KA at a moments notice to fly, that is when it has stopped blowing a gale ! the two new bautifully made Outrunners ordered from China have been put to good use,one has been fitted into my old 'Pico Stick',this has been re-named 'Super Stick' and should now climb like a rocket with that power,in fact I was considering adding a small piece of carbon fibre rod to the wing leading edge for the added stress but that would add more weight ? with braced rigged wings it should be an adventure to fly her.

Next out came my old Keil Kraft Ladybird which has been converted to take electric, shoe horning in the bits proved interesting, she is a pretty little model and flew well on the old Mills 75 now sold off as part of my decision to ditch IC has it badly affected my health having used glow and diesel fuel for far too long.

Electric has such a lot to offer these days, clean, quiet and no nasty fuel proofing to contend with,it was the logical way to go to keep flying, and once more I can use the small scale plans that I have to make new models with modern materials.

Currently experimenting with Depron, having ordered a box of sheets and special adhesive called 'Por' made by the UHU people, this does not attack foam, also there are foam friendly cyno adhesives and zappers available now.

So it is plodding on to get the fleet ready for the spring and hopefully calm days with blue skies, something to really look forward to.
