            Ken,
sorry to hear of Pam's misfortunes, some people seem to suffer more woes than anybody else.
I came to the conclusion many years ago that there is no overall life plan - things happen - no meaning behind them. It can be desperately unfair, unkind, senseless, but it happens. Any attempt to explain them is trying to read meaning, where there is none. I may be cynical, pessimistic about life, but really, that way, I'm never disappointed! I take every day as it comes, good, indifferent and bad, and try not to dwell on the negatives, however pressing they are..........

Tis a cruel world indeed, I can only hope that her recovery is swift and complete.

I think we all go through patches will our partners. If something can happen it will happen to my wife. It's not that she's particularly accident prone it's more if it can happen it will and to her!
She has a list of events that I was there but she ended up either hospitalised or bed ridden. Fortunately nothing life threatening.
Car crash, (tail ended by someone not looking). 12 months physio. Me - nothing! (And I received more compensation!! Figure that one)
                      Numerous falls and trips.
Shower door shatters on her!! Hospitalised - must admit I thought I'd lost her!!
It must be a female thing!!
My sympathies to the OP and after all these years I hope she's ok.
