Adzam,
From your longer reply above you seem to be getting a bit confused between myself and Nigel. Your reply is addressed to Nigel however the the Ben Ain is mine and I certainly was not trying to say that the forum has let me down.
I actually thought I was being quite positive about the forum!!
Never mind things do not always read as they were intended in the writing. I was just offerring a word of encouragement to Nigel and I hope that he took it as such.
All the best

NIgel,
I particularly like the way that the rust and dirt originates from a deck fitting such as a stanchion or a bollard, which is exactly is it behaves in reality as water drains from the structure.
I do tend to shy away from pastels, powdered rust and air brush techniques for rust streaks as they all seem to be too soft for me. I much prefer vertical dry brush streaks in a blend of colours to look as close to reality as possible.
I have attached a picture of one of my recent experiments at the end of the Ben Ain posting to give you an idea of what I am trying. Please excuse the washers on the potholes, I didn't make the hull.
I will also attach a couple of my hull archive pictures that I use for inspiration when painting rust on hulls.
I hope you find them interesting
All the best
Richard

I see what you mean the rust is very prolific. I just think that when the scale gets smaller you have to be a bit more delicate or otherwise it appears false. By the way your article was really impresive. I dont make large scale ships but my imagination was quite tweeked!!! i am thinking now about a 1/32 Eboat ????? gawd i really cant afford this:-)Comment
