      Hello Ralph,
Below is a copy of a pm I sent you, but is my advice and what stopped me. As they say the medicine may not be nice.... So no insults intended, it was basically what was said to me by my wife who gave up two years before (divorce proceedings still pending as she does make a good cuppa :smiling3
      Hi Ralph,
Understand you want to quit the evil weed.
Going to the pharmacy is the first step, you will get advice etc and other help.
But what do you do in the times when the craving really starts to get at you?
You do what I did, you think about the most disgusting thing you can, mine was all that gunge and muck seeping out of the end of my arteries and in my lungs, but the vision you bring up has got to be so visualy strong enough to really make you want to vomit. You then associate that vision with a cigarette, and everytime you want a cigarette, bring up that image, it is all physcological warfare, but I found it the best way to deal with it. I was never physically sick, but I came very close on a few occasions.
Normally you light up at the end of a meal, first thing when you get up or when you go to bed. When you have just finished a job, or a bit of modelling or even have one sitting alight next to you just burning away in the ash tray.
Now you are not going to like this part - you smell, in fact you do not smell, you stink, your clothes smell, your breath smells and you stink. Imagine your reaction to a dog that has just eaten some fox crap and now want to lick your face, that is what some people react like when they have to make physical contact with you. Ever seen a monkey with a stick, they always put it in their mouth, just like a smoker.
Sorry to be so blunt, but it is the truth, and it is the truth people will not tell you for fear of insulting you.
I had three heart attacks in one day, the first occured not long after I got up on a Saturday morning, I sat on the tiolet and had my first smoke of the day on the go, I had a dull ache in my left arm and what felt like wind up in my chest, in a matter of minutes that changed into a full blown heart attack, I was lucky in that the paramedic was able to ease me out of the tiolet and onto the bed, then the amulance crew arrived and took over and got me stabilised enough for the ride to A&E. Once in A&E I was connected up to the monitors and it is not funny when you see your own heart stop beating, not once but twice. But with some medication treatment I was eventually stabilised enough to be moved into the Coronry Care Ward where i was on the monitoring machines, blood was taken at regular intervals in fact they had a tap fitted in the end and just plugged the collection bottle onto the end and filled it up. I also later had 1.5 million units of a medication called Streptokinase fed to me through a tube over a 24 hour period, that was to help clear my arteries of all the muck in them, but I had to sign a disclaimer in case it affected my brain which it can do.
All of this was down to smoking up to 30 a day plus, lack of a proper diet brought on by smoking and lack of rest. And thanks to smoking I am now on five different types of medication. Would i go back to smoking, I think you know the answer to that, would I advise taking up vaping - why give up one addiction for another.
The good side, you actually feel a lot better about yourself, you do actually smell clean, you can actually taste the foods you eat, you will put on weight, but that can be sorted out by going for walks, you do not need some scantilly clad young blonde thing in a skin tight leotard in a gym, when you can exercise by walking for free.
And how long does it take, the cravings will ease after about two to three weeks, you will notice the smell when you go to the supermarket entrance, (do not throw up, they do not like it), people you know that smoke will notice you have changed. But above all get off the patches and spray as quickly as possible, they are just like the pacifier to a baby, you can beat this with one thing and that is the thing between your ears called a brain.
Good luck and let us know how you are doing - only you can do it.
I really do hope this helps you kick a habit.
      Mike.
      PS Your labido also improves......

About two hours before my normal medication knocks me out and then that is one full day.

Good going Ralph, keep at it, it will be worth it

A friend of mine worked out how much they saved per week by giving up and after 1 week, 1 month and 1 year used half of the money saved from that period to treat themselves to a present. In his case for his railway layout.

I was pretty much chain smoking and the price just kept going up and up to the point where I had not bought a model in the last few months because of the amount I was spending on the fags.I thought that this has to stop. One of my main aims is to treat myself to some fishing gear.
                          Thanks for the support.
