Simon T - a very sad announcement

It is with deepest regret that I write to inform you that Simon Titterington has passed away. He died suddenly on his own at his home on September 19th. Many of us knew SimonT AKA Mr T from the Military Modelling website and then later, the Scale Models Forum. Simon was a cornerstone of the modelling community for 30+ years with a reputation for his scratch building modelling skills and infinite knowledge of the industry. Simon was taken from us far too early and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his sisters and brother in law now who have had a tough 12 months with Father passing away last year as well. Simon's memory will live on with me forever and will never be forgotten. He was one of the good guys and I will miss him so much. God bless you Mr T and may you rest in peace.

His sisters have asked if we can observe a moment of silence on Thursday 15th October at 10.00 when the funeral service will be held.

Steve Jones wrote the sad announcement. I think he sums up how we all feel about our friend Simon. Steve, John Race and myself had become increasingly concerned. We hoped for the best but as time went on we feared the worst. I spoke to both his sisters on the phone this morning. They said how much Simon valued all his friends on the forum. Their wish for a moment of silent thanks, thoughts and memories on the 15th is an appropriate tribute.

The saddest post I have ever had to write.

He, his works and posts on MilMod were one of the reason why I decided to get back to the hobby after more than 3 decades.

Many thanks for posting this sad, sad news Jim.

I certainly did not know Simon as long as many of you but over the last five years we built up an everlasting friendship. I looked at Simon as very much my mentor and I, his apprentice bodger. In the early days we would speak every Sunday morning with my barrage of questions of all things modelling. He was always so giving with his time. His knowledge of modelling was second to none. He was great with helping on my research as well. When he received his 3D printer, we had great fun coming up with projects to use it for. Life will not be the same with out him.

Oh dear how sad. What year!
He was my conscience, and a great inspiration -I didn't know him well but I was privileged to meet him briefly last year at Cosford.

Such sad news. So hard to take in. I've known Simon through the two forums for about six years and have always been floored by his modelling abilities, his attention to detail, and his sheer enthusiasm for the subject. I used to drive him mad building straight out of the box (those Tamiya jerrycans!!!!!!!), and if anyone could have persuaded me to start using PE, it would have been him.

He will be sorely missed. RIP in modeller's heaven.

Yes, a true lover of this hobby and never hesitated to help out whenever he could. He definitely will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace Simon.

I learned so many modelling techniques from watching Si hacking up an old inaccurate kit- he taught me that anything can be reproduced or rebuilt, and not to fear the slip of the knife or the consumption of the Carpet Monster. I am a better modeller (if a rather infrequent one these days) because of him. Rest in Peace Si, and thanks for all the moggelling tips! :crying:

What terrible, terrible news, Simon helped me a great deal. Again answering my questions and sending me all sorts, would never accept a penny. Even put up with my StuG addiction

This is really sad news, I like so many above were a little concerned when he had not been seen for so long :sad:,
but I (like others) really did not expect this.

He was always sticking his oar in where it was most welcome, offering good advice when it was needed.
His scratchduggery was the best in the business and seemed to know no limit.
He will be sorely missed both on this forum and the other forum's that he frequented.

My sympathies are with his family and his close friends both here on this forum and closer to home.
