Every cloud etc. If that happens, I expect the value of my stash to increase significantly! :smiling:

I'm trying to bring mine down to an 'on demand' size!

I suspect the second hand market will benefit!

You have me intrigued, Chris. I might be a bit slow but what is 'on demand' size?

Sorry Murf, wasn't meant to be cryptic!

It was just my way of saying that I'll only buy kits when I need them.

No need to apologise Chris. I should have worked that out. Wise strategy that given the size of my own stash I have no hope of emulating. Mind you, it's quite a privilege to sit back after the workbench is cleared and ask oneself which model to start next. I went through that process this morning and it is nice to have such a huge choice.

              Cheers,

              Murfie

You're dead right, it is nice to do that. However I suffer from 'option paralysis', where given too many options I can't make a decision.

That's nearly as bad as a dose of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) when it comes to special editions.

I very much doubt that it will have much impact at all on the hobby. We will still trade with the EU as we do with other non-EU countries. There could be some price adjustments, some up and some down. Our trade deals with Singapore and Japan, for instance, may be helpful. You lose some, win some. The upsides, in longer term I am sure will outweigh the downsides.

                        Let's hope so Barry.

                          Hi Guys

this is something I have had to live with for a few years. guernsey was caught as a 'sacrificial lamb' a few years ago when the £15 Low Value Consignment Relief was removed from good from the Channel Islands. VAT is due on anything we sell from Guernsey into the UK. Not only new stuff, like my busts, but also if I were to sel any of my stash on Ebay! The VAT at 20% is even due on the postage, so an item sold for £20 plus £3.90 postsge will attract VAt on the full £23.90. We can pre-pay the VAT when posting anything so there are no delays for the recipient. Unfortunately our customs police it quite effectively - they have been known to open packets to check!

the change should not impact on anything sold by a UK based retailer since they should already by charging VAT since models are not an exempt item. (unless the retailer has a turnover less than £80k p.a. and they register for exemption).

                          Peter

The model train maker says it's in a difficult position and has paused all international orders until January 2021.

Presumably we will see the same from manufacturers exporting to the UK very soon.

To a large degree I agree with Barry, in most cases it will make very little difference. What I have noticed as an expat who still likes to get one or two bits from the UK, is an increasing number of online suppliers who no longer ship outside the UK, presumably they have decided it is not worth the hassle of dealing with the additional paperwork going forwards.
