Probably using the same technology as is used for gundams: injecting different colours of plastic into a single mould.

 And a more involved example:

I’m not sure they mould them all separately, blocking off parts of the mould where colours aren’t supposed to go and/or putting the parts from one mould into another, or if it all happens in one shot.Comment

I’ve seen the multicoloured sprues before, but three colours in one part is going to be state of the art surely….Comment

Maybe that the parts are painted at the factory, like the other bike they did a while ago?
(I'm making allowances for the 'lost in translation' habit)
Looks like a nice kit though.Comment

LOVE THAT INTREPID!!! I served on board that old gal for over a year. judging from the boxart I would say at that point in time she was serving in the roll of an attack carrier.....with F8 crusaders on board that would be the early to mid 60's.....when I reported on board in late1971 she had changed rolls to Anti-Sub (CVS) warfare. I had the pleasure of visiting Portsmouth Harbor twice in my deployments.......met a couple of "birds" there that worked in a local Kotex factory......nuff sed! Rick H.Comment

The Trumpeter caption says 'CVS-11' - would the CVS be operating F-8 Crusaders?

Thanks Lee, yes Jakko is right and I don't think Tamiya have ever done this before. I'll certainly be interested in any reviews .
I've build 4 of these now and think I have another in the stash !Comment

Dave, my information indicates the the Intrepid served as a CVA (attack carrier) in the years1954 thru 1957 then switched classification to CVS in 1960, then again back to CVA in 1964 thru 1968 and finally back to CVS in 1970 and operated in that roll until she was decommissioned on March 15, 1974. My second deployment to the Med. was that ships last active duty roll. When we came back from that cruise and anchored at Quanset Point, Rhode Island, she was sent to Charlestown and Boston Naval Shipyard. You will notice gaps in her service, I suspect those were scheduled refits and dry dock to keep her shipshape.
I suspect the CVS is an error on that kit as there is not a single ASW type aircraft in the picture. looks like an S2F at the starboard stern deck edge which would have been used as a mail and supply/medivac. bird.
