I dunno. How long's it gonna take to build it properly? A couple of hundred hours would give an entertainment cost of £2 per hour - much less than you'd spend in an hour at the pub or cinema ...... and you'd end up with summat to really be proud of and not just a few memories.

Look at Chris with his HMS Tiger build. Bet he's spent lots more than £400 quid on that but he's had years of fun out of the build with many more years to come sailing it when it's finished. OK, you can't fly this aircraft after it's built but you know what I mean.

I can spend that time with a 30 quid Revell kit. Each modeller is different. I just balk at the thought of spending that much money on a kit. 400 quid would provide heating oil for my house for a whole year. Kind of puts it into prospective when i calculate it that way

My take on this is its to do with technology ,their pushing just to see what and how far things can be taken ,what they learn from this project will carry over to others ,I cant see any profit in this ,ok there will be sales, the look at me brigade ,birthday and anaversary man who has every thing ,in the grand scale of things four hundred isn't that outrageous and I'm sure at the end of the day were see some cracking renditions of this beast we'd all love one , but honestly its not very practical for want of a better word and where on earth would you keep it ,not much more than a oversized dust trap.
Then again the tape and rivet brigade will tear it to pieces.
Another thought how afraid are these company's becoming of 3d printing its beginning to turn up in our hobby quite frequently now ,another subject for another day. Dave

Hmm - weren't all these bits in their full building kits?

This is an argument against all recreational modelbuilding, though.

Seen one built at a show. Humungous it was, perfect for 1/35 dioramas and great for a museum display but just too big for the house.

                    Cheers,
                    Richard

Wasn’t someone building a huge diorama of this with all its associated support stuff? I lost track of it around the time both rail engines were built….

Blimey, that's a lump! :flushed: Tempting, but impractical - that beast would need a garage to display it in!

There's some pictures of that build here Tim:

Don't know who built it, but I'll bet he's certifiably insane! :smiling3:

That’s the one, he used to post updates on Milmod……great model of absolutely pointless artillery…..there’s probably enough build capacity and material there to equip an entire armoured division……

Still have the problem of getting accurate plans to make those 3D CAD models!

Luke APS has just done a video comparing 3D printing to resin. Really good watch.
