How long does it take you to build a model?

So, out of interest, just asking how quickly, or slowly, you all build your kits.? This is the average time to build, paint, weather, base etc. whatever you consider "complete", and on average.
Feel free to add detail about different types of kit, scale, various stages etc.
I may add some polls on those topics too, out of interest, curiosity, and for fun. Thanks all.

Hi Dale. Just to clarify, do you mean time taken just on the model, or time taken over all? I’ve gone for time taken over all. My figures take around three to four hours each, including assembly. I can get about ten done in a fortnight up to a month…

Overall mate. Just a poll for fun,; nothing too serious. Also hoping to maybe get more forum members involved. I find polls are popular on Twitter, Facebook etc. and more people tend to interact.

I've got four on the go right now but I would say maybe four to six weeks each on average, depends how complicated to build is.

Funnily eniugh I was going to post a poll on how kits people have going at once. I'm sticking to one at a time for now, for fear I won't finish otherwise

i think its one of those 'how long is a piece of string' questions

ive done a 1/24 Lotus 7 in 24 hours for a Blitzbuild GB...............ive done a star wars droid that took over 6 months cos of problems, but i did other stuff at the same time

id say a 1/24 car or a 1/35 tank would take 3/4 weeks
                Per Ardua

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been

It varies for me from a few weeks to a few years depending on the subject matter or genre. Dioramas typically take years. A kit OOB perhaps a few weeks just to get the mojo flowing. Scratchbuilding or modifying takes months. I didn't mention research and getting the thought out of my head also takes years.

                  Cheers,
                  Richard

You didn't have a slot for billions of years.

Of course free time must play a big part. Where as the members that still work and have young families must struggle to find time, people like me, retired can spend as much times as I want .
When I was working I never had any time free for modelling, only started again when I retired.

2 months is probably the average time to build a full diorama and that can include days spent at the bench and in research on the PC.

I have averaged 7 kits per year, 1/32 scale aircraft mostly. The average went up over lockdown significantly. I am excluding the period since ‘packing up’ my workbench for a move.

Pre-lockdown I estimate it was around 6 a year. Now I am retired and once I get back to the bench I am expecting to build around 7/8 a year, 1/32 scale of course, but I will be doing a lot of larger 1/48 aircraft.

Being retired, I can choose when & how long I'm at the bench. If I don't feel like it, I can go several days without any action, then again I can spend 6-7 hours continuously when the mood takes me. Complexity obviously is a factor, but generally a couple of weeks is enough for 99% of the models

I did click the button, but as extra detail I added that you can work out how long I take from the two threads Or just the first and my last post in the build thread, of course.
