That is very sad really Peter; I wonder how many second-echelon recipients of those works realise the significance to past generations that they represent! I am fortunate enough to own a volume titled 'The Maritime Paintings of John Chancellor' - if you like maritime paintings I cannot recommend his work highly enough - such detail and observational skill to satisfy even the most demanding modeller/ship lover/maritime artist aficionado!

here is a link to past autions section of the the auction site, i used the search function to list past Roy Cross sales: https://www.vectis.co.uk/search?page...on_period=past

you can see the sort of stuff which was sold, some prices were quite reasonable.

Steve - so do I - It seems the sales started around 2004, I missed the first 10 years of them.

i have always loved illustrative art , here is a link to another site which has one Roy Cross for sale - painting of aircraft carriers:

Artist: Roy CrossMedium: Gouache on BoardSize: 24" x 16" (600mm x 400mm)Date: 1980Signature: Signed by the artist lower rightCode: CrossCarrierThis is the Signed unique original Gouache painting by Roy Cross.A large original painting by Roy Cross depicting the history and development of the Aircraft carrier. A beautiful painting.Note artwork has a cease down the centre. This was often done by the artist in order to mail the artwork to the publisher.

Seeing some going for £2000 to £ 3000 and being water colour just shows how high the demand for his work is Peter .
A great thing to own and treasure, agree with Tim about it going to someone who appreciates them .

Sorry Lee for butting in on your thread .

Ooh memory lane! My first thought was of that flying fortress picture, I won it in a local news agents model making competition when I was about 12. And then the RAF emergency set!! Love that too.
It's all so evocative, thanks Lee for the thread :thumb2:

Some parts are missing and the cammo isn't correct (StuG is not even painted), but it was amazing what some pastels could do back in the day. These are probably around 50 years old and a helluva lotta fun way back then..............................
