Hi guys

thanks for the support - it will be 2 weeks tomorrow and I am getting really bored! Not a lot of pain, the real 'pain' is having my whole hand in a cast which means I cannot grip anything, coupled with having to keep the hand elevated. Even painting flats is limited to short sessions. Still; it could have been a lot worse!

On Thursday Tina and I are flying to Southampton for me to have my first cataract operation, just the thought of which petrifies me!

I am sure the eye operation will be fine. It is a straightforward procedure which I'm sure will make a big difference.

HI Peter are you havin a plastic lens fitted in ? as i have just had that op just before xmas an it wasnt to bad so please dont worry too much as i must admit i was frightened which is a natural reackion an im a proper coword but if they like my hos they show u a vid to show what hapens an for me relived me no end an op for me its only last 10min for me any way hope yours go ok an i can see lovely now

I can understand you being petrified of the trip. I once spent twelve hours in Southampton airport waiting for a plane to take off. The thought of having to do that again would terrify me…...
The op will be absolutely fine though. It’s a very routine procedure and you’ll be amazed at the difference.

a quick update. Had the stitches removed this morning, there were 12 of them, the pin is still in place and the hand re-plastered. the thumb looks horrible (no surprise) but is healing well. the plan is for the pin to be removed in w weeks time, and hopefully I will be fitted with a flexible drassing rather than plaster. Slow, but positive progress.

on Friday I had my first of my cataracts removed and replaced with a lense. I looked a right sight on Friday - dressing over my right eye and my right hand in plaster! Fortunately I was well sedated and cannot remember anything about the proceedure, on the basis of having my left eye done at the end of March I am glad I cannot remember it - I admit I am very sqeemish.

so far so good, sight is a little unbalanced since I have one internal lense and one on my spectacles (removed the right lense). The strange thing is that it will take up to 4 weeks for the new lense to settle in the eye and my sight is slightly different each day, but my close vision is getting better so I may be able to paint some flats.

It sounds daft but I'm not sure. i asked for sedation and they said that they would sedate me but not put me out because the surgeon ask me to look at different lights, they also said I would not remember all of the procedure. I cannot remember anything. I guess I may have been under as much sedation as they could give me, buth whether or not I was asleep, I do not know.

WELL Peter you dint miss much an not painfull just weird all i see was a load of clear water bein pourded onto my eye an a very bright white light an loads of pretty coloured lights like looking through a kiddys colider scope but as i dint stop the op it was all over in 10 mins but i was bricking it an glad it was over an the surgon said i did well but if i have to have the other eye done now i wont worry to much as what i did look at what i did to tigers eletrics through worring
ATB AN get better an take it easy an yes i know the eye drops not great an your thumb but you will get through it it just takes time
