A good few of the posts years old and from people that are no longer members.
Some on posts that was just a simple "nice" from another member THREE YEARS after the event and on a dead account!

It is this kind of use of the like button I was trying to curb.

So can we all just let it lie and get on with building something.
Since I am totally new here I want to make sure I understand it properly.

What is the problem with people pressing "like"?

Does it affect anything negatively in any way?

It is just expressing that someone likes something he read so what is the harm?

Please help me understand. Thank you!

Answers in order as I see them….
No problem…….no, it affects nothing of any importance……..no harm, that’s exactly what it is there for.
This thread was raised because it appears some people were using the like button as a place holder so they knew where they were in the thread. Not seen it myself, and don’t understand the issue. After all, who doesn’t want to be liked

It's this kind of BS that has put me off this forum. Why have the functionality if you don't want it to be used? Why so intent on controlling how and why the forum is used? Why are some topics ok and others not?

Instead of addressing everyone, just take it up with the individuals. Admin laziness in my opinion. Protectionism of a minority core.

Have I missed something here? the like button doesn’t bump threads or posts I really don’t see the issue with using it, that is what it’s there for, if somebody doesn’t like the little bell from telling them someone liked their post then turn off “Reacts to your message“ in your preferences

HI John yes you are right in my opinion as i also think like you are as i cant see an issue with the like buttons an it really helps the builder to get a quick compliment on his or her build but thats my take on this subject
ATB to you Sir

Exactly :thumb2:
If the notification annoys you then turn it off. In your account you can customise your settings to suit you.

Nothing missed John. The whole buttongate saga is a little incomprehensible to me as well. After all, even if you havn’t disabled the reactive messages when you look at them the software clearly distinguishes between button clicks and written replies. If it says xxxx reacted to, then it’s a button press. If it says xxxxx replied to, then they’ve written something. Not only that, the second time you go into the bell icon only “replied to”messages are highlighted?
To be fair to Ian, he may well have got a couple of complaints from members that didn’t realise how the bell icon worked and thought a general discussion was the best way to deal with it.

And to think there is (probably) a very simple solution. Just switch off some or all of these options on your preferences page:

… and away go the notifications you don’t care about, such as when someone hits Like on a post you made (that’s the “Reacts to your message” one.)

That is what I’ve wondered about too more than once over the years I’ve been here. But threads that discuss anything remotely like it tend to get deleted …

Silly question based on a quiet observation....

Just wondering why the 'Snipers' who are publicly having a bit of a pop at the way this forum is run bothered to re-join this year?

Lots of Love.

This is a great question.

I have a counter question - why is ok for the forum to have a public pop at it's patrons?

This is going around in circles and will only create (more) tension and segregation , which imho is not a positive direction for the forum and it's members to go.

Topic locked. If you have a problem with this then please use the PM facility and contact me.
