I did something similar about fifteen years ago. Went for an X ray to find it was only sprained. I say “only”, it swelled up like a beach ball and hurt like the devil for about six weeks. Still more inflamed than the other one after all this time. Interestingly, the specialist noticed I was holding my arm a bit funny, because that was the one I fell on, and insisted I had that X rayed as well. Turned out I had broken my elbow…..so I had a sprained right ankle and a broken left elbow immobilised at the same time…..not fun at all.

Just be aware that even after it heals it will be weak for a long while and prone to doing the same thing if you are not careful.
That's exactly the way mine did Tim.....hurt like Hell!!!!

        Commiserations.

When I broke my ankle a few years back I was told it was much less problematic than a bad sprain, so you might console yourself with that, Ian.

I was in plaster for three weeks and it ('only') took five years for the honeycomb, bulky repair bone to dissolve and the dense, hard original bone to re-grow and replace it.

I was on a walking holiday in Portugal when I did mine. Looking at the guide book while walking - big mistake! These days, walking guides come with several pages of safety advice. I like that Wainwright had little more than two rules: look where you're putting your feet and stop when you can't look where you're putting your feet.

        I broke both rules.

That be where I went wrong. I am a bit 'unstable' at the best of times due to my dodgy knees, so tend to be careful where I plant my feet. Got distracted I guess and missed my target.
Not heard from the hospital again so I guess i have to suffer the boot for the duration. (think he said six weeks!!!)
I broke my other ankle, what, almost 30 years ago and I was half a millimetre from a plate and screws...It was a clean break and the boss said it should mend well. And it did, luck for me.

My ankles live precariously as I wear Chinese wooden clogs in the wet kitchen when I cook. Keeps me elevated over the wok and less chance of slipping on splattered oil but I sometimes miss while putting it on and almost twisting the ankle several times. :rolling:

Better the boot than the plaster I think, Ian.

            Cheers,
            Richard

Just had an interesting phone call from the head of orthopaedics at the hospital.
99% sure that it is not broken. The doctor that examined it yesterday was rather 'new' and showed caution.
So call off the privat nurse and the chocolates.
Still hurts a bit but I'll get over it.

No nurses --- disgraceful! Will be wine rationing next (NO, No,No ... a boy needs sustenance to carry him over the travails of the Carpet Monster!) Let's not go there!

Well Ian that's the end of all our sympathy. :smiling:
Good news really though. I hope it improves quickly and you're back out of pain soon.

I've called Matron, and she is on her way, worry not you will soon be walking if not running Ian.
