The good side was that I got to go and see countries I would never visit, and meet some real people instead of the city folks. Do I miss it, not one minute, in the summer I can sit in the garden pretending to garden, and in the winter I can cuddle up to a warm body...
Good luck with the new job, it will be strange for a while untill you get sorted out.
Me - I drive a bench now and drive the missus crazy - but it keeps me sane.
      Mike.
Thanks Mike this layed back life style is going to be different and hard to get used to.

Pete I always felt like I was working a extra 3 hours a day at the last I was wore out when I got to work. I’m glad it’s over.

Great to read you are 'Back Peddling' a bit. All you need to do sooner rather than later is retire completely. Then like me and other layabouts on here you too can enjoy every week consisting of 6 Saturdays and a Sunday!

All the best to you Bud. :thumb2:

            Ron
Ron your right I feel like I’m easing into full retirement I’m not the kind that can just retire and hang up my hat.

Great move Lee, love that dump truck!
I'm also thinking about quiting my job for a few weeks now, feeling very frustrated at work for quite some time.
But it's not that easy to find anything with better conditions/pay...

                Wish you the best!

                  Right got it!.
Nice truck as well and having it home must also mean that you can go right to a pick up or drop off, without having to 'go to the office first'.
Hope that you enjoy the new job Lee.

Happy for you Lee , the new job sounds like a lot less hassle for you . After 25 years of the 75 mile commute youve earned a nice little number and it sounds like this one is perfect . Cheers tony
                    Ps nice truck !

Yeah Baby..........that's what I'm talking 'bout!! Nice Rig and clean as a whistle! Does it come with a chauffer's cap? :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2:
I completely get where you are coming from, but in reverse, I worked for 30+ years just six miles from my house......retired and moved to Montana and later went to work 90 miles from my house!! Four 10 hour days with Fri. Sat. Sun. off. Ended up renting an apartment and commuted only once a week. eight years later I hung it up. Miss the guys I worked with but not the JOB. Sure you will have a lot more time to play on the bench, once you get used to the new routine.

                            Good for you!

Covid was a huge re-set for me. This year I have taken six weeks off, through the summer, for the first time since I was a kid. It's been great. It didn't stop people asking, can you do this or that, but I stuck to my guns! Being self-employed I always worried about turning work down, but no more.

I too am planning to wind back my work and have more time for me. I've reached what used to be retirement age, luckily in pretty good health, and will be a lot more choosy about what I do and, perhaps more pertinently, don't do.

We only get one go at this
