Somewhat unexpectedly, today I went to:

Scale Model Challenge 2023 in Veldhoven, Netherlands.

Though I didn’t buy that much, it wasn’t overly cheap anyway:

A very rare book, some more Resicast stuff while you can still get it, and assorted other stuff: the aluminium things are two 0.6 mm rivet punches from RP Toolz, because my old one broke and I figured better to buy a spare; some chain; the blue things are containers with reamers in various sizes (and the stand where I bought those gave me the pipette and the fine brush for free; a set of accessories; and a bunch of decals:

All the same These are brand-new sets of decals for LCA landing craft in 1:35 and 1:76 by Black Lion Decals, which I got complimentary for drawing them Well, one set of each for me, and one set of each for the person who did most of the research (which I’ll give to him ASAP, of course), plus a third 1:35 version because it had a printing error, so Michel from Black Lion handed me that as well.

          OK.....so I have been a naughty boy.

This popped on FleaBay. Although it cost the same as the kit new, it came with £20-£25 worth of extras thrown in, so I can't complain.

The magazine looks really nice too.

I asked back then if anyone on the forum could print these if I bought the STL files. My luck was in as Neil Merryweather stepped up to the plate and offered to help. After much correspondence from me asking daft questions, Neil finally printed one of each type - after re-scaling them to 1/56 for me. Good man.

They arrived yesterday and I have to say I'm much impressed. Here's some of the parts for the Jorden version before cleaning up:

I've tried to show the level of detail - with limited success due to my poor camera skills:

Here are some of the parts for the Colony version after clean-up:

Those pale lines on the piece in the middle are actually a cut out grille.

Here's one of the render pictures from the original files:

Sorry for the duplicate pic. Is anyone else having trouble uploading pictures? They're taking ages to copy and now it won't allow me to upload selected pictures.

Anyway. Colourful beasties ain't they. I seriously doubt whether I'll add all the bolt on bits as shown (These are from one of the 'Alien' films. I managed to watch the first bit of the original film - up until the point where the crew had just seen the alien kill one of them, at which point they decided to all split up and go hunting the thing single handed through the dim corridors of the ship!! Worse than the old B-movies where everyone wanders around the haunted castle on their own!) and since I ordered the less detailed prints, I have solid windows.

I may decide to cut these out and see if I can cobble together some interior stuff. We'll see.

Once again, my thanks to Neil for doing such a terrific job.
            Good ol Neil.Top bloke.

Well, I didn’t … One book, one kit, three accessory sets, and some tools. The decals cost me no money at all — but they did cost me quite a bit of work drawing them a few months ago

I keep having mishaps while scribing whether I'm using various tapes, bits of photo etch or whatever so decided to invest in these templates. A bit spendy but when one bad line could ruin a model for me, I figured they'd be worth it long term. The round one should come in handy as a mask for painting wheels too.

Plus my regular thermometer broke during the freakishly hot temperature spell we had so I've gone posh with a digital replacement.

You should of went boss!!! Yea it would have been good if you had a hotel for one overnight after the 8 hour drive. For us, it only took almost 6 hours from Bamberg. You would have gone home a very poor soul though, Ian. There were some great deals to be had!!!...

@Jakko...Shame you didn't know you were going as we could have met up for a beer or coffee and had a chat at the bar in front of ASK, in the same aisle as Resicast and Reality in Scale...

I'll post up my loot in the morn, after I take pics..........

                        Morning Everyone,

A fantastic weekend at the SMC always leaves you a whole lot bit lighter in the wallet! It was great to see old vendor friends and to meet some new ones too, but sad to see one for the last time...My loot actually fit in one normal plastic bag this time!

MIG slow dry and 2 needle applicator types. The empty glue bottle is to pour my old MIG slow dry into as the cap is glued on tight and de-bonder and pliers can't get it off. I talked to MIG, at their stand and even Miguel (Mr. MIG) himself, said he has the same problem. Until they work out a solution, the best way to stop this is to wipe away any excess on the nozzle. let the bottle stand for a minute to dry and them screw the cap back on it, according to Miguel. Mini files, a synthetic brush set for acrylics, metal square and brass tubing. The bag of garden hose applicators, the sanding sponge and the pipettes were freebies. I also picked up 2 bottles of Florry washes cheap. One normal wash and one of their new new thick washes (no pic)..................Reference Materials,

Out of print for quite a while and sort of pricey, but worth it. Christian from Belgium had these and he carries the whole Aviattic line of products made in the UK. He has a .com website for the EU, so you can buy them without the hassles of customs, import duties, etc....................Flat stuff,

I finally got to meet Lukasz in person after many mails and the decal order earlier. A really nice person and he made me a super deal on the kit, the 2 motors and the turnbuckles (the pic before)!!! Regular €249 and he said, give me €170...Plus I traded the decal sheet with the small hexagons for the larger hexagon decals and he said, just keep the smaller decal sheet too!!! I'm happy and the kit is so finely done with resin, 3D parts, wire, etch and decal sheets!!! I'll post some pics later...........................The other kit +,

For a tenner from Customscale in Berlin. I have the gun kits from Das Werk that he helped out with. Lastly, a few track sets from my Buddy and the new owner. I practically stole these for the price Giuseppe gave me for them and 3 sets for my friend Thorsten, all together. A farewell price I think........................

I have loads of pics from the show to post, but I have to sort out 4 people's worth first. Around 550 pics total and I'll try and keep it to around 150......

I was actually after the paint, but decided to add some books about things that interest me Periscoop op! is actually from 1945 and published in London, a history of the Dutch submarine service during the war.

                            The paints are:

Royal Navy colours for my LCA, because it seems to be just about impossible to discover model paint recommendations or mixes for these except “Colourcoats has the correct ones”. Great, but I don’t really want to spray enamels, so I’ve decided to buy these to use as guides for mixing Tamiya and/or Mr. Aqueous Hobby
