I know what it is. It’s an RAF beret! Some smally trainee has had it nicked by a grizzled old fitter for being a cheeky little t**t and its been frisbeed across the crowd.
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

There used to be a UFO on my local Google maps. If you looked really close though, it turned out it was a pair of pliers some eejit had thrown at the camera!

... I have a theory about that Tim...
.... I reckon it's because we,(the youngsters of that era),were so innocent in general, and when you saw something unusual/ groundbreaking happen,it was truly fantastical.... these days technology goes in leaps and bounds so rapidly that it's become, expected, and "the norm" ...
                  ... Just my theory obviously

Personally I think the world changed out of all recognition in my first thirty years…..and the last thirty just seem like more of the same. Even films and TV are just retreads of the same old thing with just a bit more technology thrown in…..
Scientifically nobody seems to be pushing the envelope and making large leaps in knowledge, just moving it on incrementally. The pursuit of knowledge for the pure joy of it seems to have disappeared. All research goes just as far as someone is willing to pay. Where are the risk takers…..

                      ... Couldn't agree more...
..Rach and I were talking about this only a short while ago,and came to the conclusion that the recent industry has run out of ideas..
Therefore,we've given up on "The latest", Film/TV offerings ...
.... and gone down the You Tube/Old Satellite film channels, there's SO much of the early stuff right there..
.. it's surprising just how much of B&W '40s,50's...( and SOME even 20's,30's too!! ) Is worth watching..and dare I say it, even better than most of the drivel produced these days..a LOT of which are just really "Remakes"...
                      ... Sorry,rant over!!

i don’t think they’ve run out of ideas, I just think they are so risk adverse that they won’t make anything original in case they don’t make enough money from it. Popular Music is pretty much the same….endless lookylikeys coming off a production line…..and popular literature has gone pretty much the same way.

Risk managers have an outsized influence on all industry today. No assured profit= no budget. When I was a member of corp. staff decades ago, we enjoyed a generous budget for out-of-box experimentation until the 2000 teens when the risk mgrs. & bean counters joined forces to eliminate it.

We were so disappointed w/new Law & Order offerings on TV, we took a look at the originals. We can see now why there are L&O reruns 24/7. They are head & shoulders above new stuff.

Trouble is, I am no longer the market they aim at…..those in their twenties and thirties are the core demographic, and have only seen this stuff a few times so think it is still fairly original I suppose……in thirty years time they will think the same as us….
