Stop with the paint "code" in the assembly drawings. Just say what the colour is. Let people know and not have to cross reference between paint brands. If its got a name or production code as in an FS, RAL, KLM, BS, etc or Dunkel Gelb III , or British Khaki no 3. say it.
On the same subject, paint call outs in sub-assembly sections. Why is it that so few kit companies do this?

Rubber tyres/tires. Why Just why. The detail is oop: they loose shape , either stick to any surface they are standing on, or melt, or both. If you want to make the extra effort there is this great new invention called 3D printing where the detail is fantastic and no mould seams!

Options: If you are going to make a model so finely detailed with PE parts could you please, where it is possible include a plastic part as an option. Or again there is the 3D Print option where a more robust material can be used. I like PE but not when it is so "fine" that it breaks when you as much as look at it sideways. How the heck are we ment to be able to fold it four ways, glue it together and then in place!

Any others have model kit pet hates that could be done better.

100% with you on all of these Ian.

Add to that the manufacture of parts that are just not structurally strong enough to be practical in the name of keeping the. ‘In scale’.

In building my HKM 1/48 Lanc I have had a lot of broken parts in the name of scale thickness. It the only bad thing about the kit (oh, plus vague placement instructions…)

So many u/c struts broke I decided to buy a metal set. A brass set being available for £60! I just did not want to lay out that much. Instead I got a white metal set for a fraction of that only to find that it’s useless…. I just used some of the metal struts with the plastic parts. I now think that I would have been better off spending £60 on the brass……

The worse thing, a ‘box’ that fits under the nose of the Lanc, provided as etch, bent to shape OK but could I get it to glue to the fuselage, no way. Eventually a side just broke off making it useless leaving me with a ca mess to clean up on the painted fuselage. I could not be bothered to scratch another so left it without.

What fool decides that the thin edge of etch is good for gluing!

              Rant over.

The same one that thinks that a 0.5mm Ø plastic stub is perfectly workable to hold a head-lamp on a car. or a crank handle. How many wingmirrors have survived past the first month. Maybe a better idea for things like wing mirror bars would be to include a former you could bend some included brass wire to shape/length.

Regarding etch, my absolute pet hate is supplying etched parts to fold into a box that are hinged from the lid or base. It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to get sharp corners that way…..to get a proper box either the sides have to overlap the ends or the ends overlap the sides.

Or at the very least, also include the official names/numbers in the list of recommended paints.

I'm pretty new to all of this but I concur with manufacturers paint colour descriptions.

But I guess alll kit manufactures (who also sell paint) want you to buy their paints. It's how they make money with the added extras and services.
