My biggest pet peeve is in Ian's opening post...Trashy rubber or some chemical compound crap tires that stick/melt to the rims, even if the rims have been painted inside. Ok, it would cost a few Pfennings more to mold them in plastic like the kit parts or even go with resin or 3D printed ones. With some of the ridiculous kit prices today, I can't believe they still throw the rubber type, crap tires in the box. Thank goodness for AM replacements!!!...

I won't even get into destructions or paint guides...............

Now when did moulded in detail like that ever survive a build intact? Never.

The question is, do I cut it off now or wait until it gets broken off?

I have a suitable piece of brass tubing to replace it.

Just to follow up. I did decide to cut that part off and I used three pieces of brass tube to make a replacement. It’s a lot easier than waiting for it to break off.

Incidentally, if you don’t have any brass tubing then I really recommend you get a selection of sizes, looking not just at the outer dimensions but also the inner, so they can slide into each other. These have saved the day many times. Lots of sizes available in John’s shop. It’s one way of dealing with manufacturers shortcomings…


Oh, and my neat little Wowstick pen drill really makes the drilling of the location hole a doddle.

I’ll second that. If you like to detail models or scratchbuild replacement parts, a couple of sizes will very much come in handy.
