What colour to paint my garage floor for modelling?

    Hi,

I have now bought a house with a garage so I can finally get on with my model bismarck after far too long leaving it on the shelf.

Now I am going to be painting the walls white to help with light etc but I am wondering what to colour to paint the floor? I was thinking white but there doesn't seem to be a white concrete floor paint that I can find. So was thinking light grey but not sure if parts that ping off will show up very well?

    What do you guys think?

    Thanks.

Paint is whatever colour you want and then get an off cut of light coloured vinyl flooring and place that around your workstation. Alot easier

In your position I would paint the area around the workstation a hard wearing brick red. There are not many parts that won't show up against that colour. I have floorboards (with gaps!!!) and they are the bain of my life...

Actually I might just use vinyl to cover the whole of the floor as they do that in white and it's not too expensive

Given that very few kits are in black plastic, I would paint the floor black but vinyl would be good at you can hear where things land better.

I'm with ian , black floor then a piece of vinyl flooring under where you sit. Not only will this make bits easier to see but if you cant find them ,a sweep of the vinyl into a dustpan, then empty the contents onto an a3 piece of paper usually finds it. The vinyl being a lot easier to sweep carefully into a pan ,not having any little nooks and crannies the errant bits can get into like a rough concrete floor would. cheers tony

AFK I went down to B & Q & they do cheap carpet tiles. Has a very short pile.

Advantages. Little plastic parts do not ping off it so easily in all directions. Plastic backing stops damp. In the winter it is a bit more comfortable & warmer. If you mess up a tile just replace it.

If you use the garage for your car, heaven forbid, it soaks up the oil very nicely.

Finally a really super advantage. Lay in a light grey & dark grey checker board & you can play draughts or chess while waiting for the paint to dry.

On a serious note I would question white paint. Very harsh light with flash back. I would have gone for a very light fawn. Also all in matt emulsion.

Add. The carpet takes away the hollow/echo sound you get in a garage.

Very funny. Only a nutty Scotsman could have thought that up.

I burst out laughing when I saw the tin.

My only complaint, being a member of the clan Stewart, is that the "shade" should be Stewart of Appin which would be more appropriate.

Do they do alternatives Andrew ?

Being an ex decorator I`ve used this stuff before but you need a left handed brush to get the best results.

                      I will get my coat
