Self employed lighting technician, currently on tour with "Elvis The Concert". Started way back with The Clash, previously a chemist and drummer with bands you won't have heard of

You'll see that my builds tend to come in lumps between jobs.

There are a few fellow modellers in the entertainment world, notably my friend Nigel Julian who runs the P-47 site on Aeroscale.

    Cheers

    Steve

Left School and completed a proper apprenticeship for 5 years as an Electrician, Moved around and became an Electrical/Mechanical Engineer. Progressed then into the Fire Alarm Industry and been there the last 25 years now. Moved up to Projects Manager around 20 years ago. Now cover Fire, Intruder, CCTV etc and mainly deal with new builds such as Distribution Warehouses.

Give us a few band names steve, you never know if you did any session work we could have gigged together. I played keyboards (with an Emmerson, Lord, Wakeman twang to give you an idea of the genre) in a few bands for their live performances (out of sight normally, just how i like it ... with me having a face for radio )

My first proper job was at sea working on Cable Ships. After leaving the sea, I've stayed in comm's looking after BT's big underground cables. A useful source of 0.32 mm aluminium conductors.

Colin I played with some bluesy bands around Oxford whilst still at school and then punk happened. I discovered I could make FAR more money working for bands than being in one

Tony,Sheffield tonight, had an afternoon off here yesterday so I trundled off to find the site of this.

I didn't expect the Bf109 to be there but this is supposed to be Barker's Pool which has obviously changed a fair bit!

              Cheers

Thanks Tony,I recognised the City Hall (I've been there many times) but when trying to orientate myself to imagine where the photo was taken from I did indeed run into some newer buildings!

BTW have a good look at the way they are lifting that fuselage,it's pretty dodgy rigging by today's standards. Mister 'Elf and Safety wouldn't be happy!

                    Cheers

What im asking myself steve , is why are they going to all the trouble of lifting it anyway? I can only . imagine they were going to reverse a flatbed lorry under it or something , and yes , the ropes and chains look a bit haphazard!!!!

It had made a forced landing in Kent and was in pretty good nick. It was put on display, here in Sheffield, to show people how well we were doing. Local dignitaries got to sit in it.

Whether they are setting it up or taking it down in the first photo I don't know but it must have been trucked and/or trained around the country.

                          Cheers

Reading all the high flying, high tech jobs on here makes my history a bit plain.....

Five years doing, as Andy wrote, a proper 5yr. apprenticeship as a joiner, gaining advanced City & Guilds. (When these were worth something) not the 6mth, or less, it takes to get them nowadays!

Had two yrs. working for the Army as Head Warden at their firing range on the Dee Estuary, Wirral. Merseyside.

Went back to the tools and self employed in 1970 at the start of the building boom and stayed the same until my son, myself and my wife started to sell ceramic tiles ect. about 14 yrs. ago

Threw the tools into the nearest river, and never looked back!

Now I'm 7/8th retired, only being occasionally dragged from sitting in the sun to do the odd delivery!

As the title of Joe Walsh's song goes....."Life's been good to me."

After gaining a degree in Astrophysics, ended up working for BP as a computer programmer in the early 80s. Since then its been a succession of IT related jobs from Technical Author/trainer to Tech support on Macs (before they were fashionable). Then ran my own website design and consultancy business for several years from the late 90s until it became very unprofitable in the mid/late-2000s. Then went back into permanent employment just before the crash happened (phew!) with a company that builds Customer Relations Management tools for other businesses and have worked on websites for several big names (Nikon, Betfair, Thomas Cook, BT and others). The company I work for has just been acquired by Oracle, which for once is a good thing as this pretty much guarantees our continuing employment!
