Hallo All, can anybody help ?

    Hallo scale modellers,

I have just bought a few weeks ago, a radio controlled model tank ( made in China ) a M1 Abrahm tank 1:12 scale.

It suppose to drive good and fire a bb gun to 25 metres.

Well nothing as such, it crawls along and it fires about 2 metres if you luckey.

it arrived in a pretty bad state, it looked if it has been in in a tumble drier, and nobody wants to take responsibilty for it but it could be a good conversion project!

How could I get it to a reasonable speed, would it better to put new motors in (two motors are fitted) maybe with a higher voltage ( 9.6 Volt at present )

The gearbox seeems to be a sealed unit and gives me not a great clue.

And how can I alter the gun so it fires something like 20 meter distance ?

Over all it is a good detailed model and it got potential but the performance is very diserable if not even none exsisting.

Has anybody some good tips to make this beast a proper tank ?

    Many thanks

Maybe you should get a new engine. You wouldn't know where I could get a paper model of a Grumman Agcat, would you?

Congratulations on joining up you will get plenty of helpful hints from these guys.

What is the firing system in your gun (gas or spring)

What sort of motors are the drive motors at 9.6 they could be the same as the home handyman cordless drill. If you remove the motors and apply battery power to wires on one motor and check the RPM then reverse the polarity (red to Black) and see if there is a change in the engine revs sometimes the motors are timed to better one way than the other if so change each motor over to the other engine mount and test it again. most of these sorts of motors will take extra voltage provided you don't load them up or they will get too hot and burn out, but important thing is the power take off for the radio gear, ih it comes from the main batteries then you will have to check that the extra voltage does not damage the radio gear.

Sometimes if you have rubber tracks and they are too hard the extra load on the wheel bearings could be a problem reason.

Hallo ,and thank you for your tips. I will test it out and see but than I drive the tank in reverse or forward it is just like a crawler speed that's all. My knowledge with electronics is quite limited but open for new ventures.

I am thinking of replacing them all together and us my proper radio gear.

I have build model boats in the past but not tanks yet.

This is a challenge but i hope this thing will run good in the garden.

The firing mechanism is air but I have not worked myself into the turret yet.

I finished painting the chassis and wheels so far and repaired all the item.

Soon I will start on the upper body and last will be the turret.

It is a great model once finished and I would love a realistic driving speed.

        many thanks

Post picture of your motor setup with a rule in the picture so we can get an idea of the sizes you are working with. I have never worked with model tanks, but in the past I have rewound electric motors for slot cars too increase torque or RPM. Replacement motors are cheap and availiable from all sorts of tools and toys should be able to find something to speed it up. Chris

            Hallo Chris,

              Hallo again,

Sorry for the long delay but now I have done some pictures of the motor arrangement of my tank.

It is all very sealed but maybe you have some ideas. I could mean revamping the whole gearbox but I hope just a set of new motors might do the trick as i like to install my radio control gear to have it running properly.

                Hi Lutz,

Having looked at your pics above, that unit doesn't look too sealed and should be easily opened up with a screwdriver to allow access for removal of the motors. You should be able to replace them then with some decent equivalents - just remember to wire them up the same as they are now and solder the suppressors back on too.

I don't have one of these particular tanks so I cannot really comment on the firing mechanism bit.

                Good Luck

                Regards..........Mark.
