How are you going to do the Zimmerit Bob? Buy resin sheets or tackle it yourself? The AFV Club one looks a very nice kit.

Mind out how you decide to place the tank. Wittmans actual tank number was 205, but on the day of his most famous action at Villers Bocage he was in 222 due to a breakdown of his tank.

If you're thinking of the time of his death, then 007 is ok.

Toothpaste and a hammer!

In all seriousness, I have absolutely no idea. I guess I really should learn how to do it myself rather than sticky on bits. I might actually do the Tamiya one first just to practice the Zim before I tackle the nicer AFV kit.

The old tried & trusted method eh?

The Tamiya kit is a nice one - it was the first one I ever posted on here many years ago.

I went in for some glue and paint but came out with this one and for once I came out with what I went in for and enough glue to last me a while.

Nice kit all the same.D day jeep from italeri left unopened as it is what it is.Revell Memphis Belle although big in scale 500x650 it's very lacking in parts and detail which leaves me slightly disappointed but I acquired it cheaply so I'll take it on the chin. On that basis I'd highly recommend the Dragon and Tamiya kits. Happy shopping.

John, I bought the 1/48 Revell Memphis Bell cheap too. You are being kind about it, old lad. I think it's appalling! I'm really disappointed with the complete lack of detail. Total rubbish. I wish I'd saved my dosh.

Remaining of my British Army tanks collection has nearly been filled but now I'm looking into armoured artillery pieces IE the Deacon, Archer, etc
Does anyone know of any 1/35 kits that I can obtain to make the British armoured collection complete??

Regards

Robert

Bronco make a 1/35 Archer & Bishop Robert. I can't say that I've ever seen a Deacon in kit form.

Well thanks Patrick
I have the Comet ( bronco on order ) I will look for the Archer and Bishop.
I'm thinking the Deacon may have to be either a mix match or scratch built ( not looking forward to that idea.

Thanks

At the rate you build Peter, I'd say you got about a week's supply of glue there

4 weeks ago I hadn't thought about scale models for the last 30 years...

...and this was the pile yesterday!

I initially bought one model - the T34/76 and the week after I was just going to buy some paint... Well, I've seen here how most of you do the same and I apparently did so as well.

I've already got a wish-list on the go and I wish I'd gotten back to this years ago because I'm really having fun - and the kids have shown some interest too!
Am I correct in thinking the scale models are way cheaper today than they used to be? I remember Italeri and similar were much more expensive when I was a kid.

I think the plan is to make some sort of "parade" with the most common German armoured vehicles from Panzer I to the Maus and the other more or less fictional ones.
I'm also really keen on getting my hands on the Haunebu II - German Flying Saucer as a continuation of the "what if" collection. That and the Ratte!

Suddenly becoming retired isn't too bad at all...

That's a nice selection there Jens, with possibly the exception of the Panther...it's a bit long in the tooth now. I've got the Panzer III with paint & decals on - it's a decent kit.

Are scale models cheaper? I wouldn't say so if thinking of retail prices. Many high end kits from Dragon, Takom, Meng or even Tamiya go for over £50. But the details in these leave the older kits by Italeri or Academy choking in the dust!

I got the Panther for really cheap to be honest, ~£12-ish, and I sort of thought it could be given to the kids for practise, or myself to practise on.
There seems to be a fair few "nicer" kits of later Panther Ausf. G around and in due time one of them will probably end up in my pile as well.
But I admit to be totally clueless of which models are accurate and crisp and which ones are, shall we say, less... I've tried to look at the Tamiya model/article number so far and picked the higher ones when ordering, apart from where I wanted a specific model - like the earlier Tiger I. The Panther had a lower number and I figured it was an older kit, but it was really cheap and I need to churn out a few models to get the experience too.

I've so far only bought cheaper models from Tamiya simply because a really high-end model would be wasted on me where I am skill-wise today, but as you say - they are miles better than the old Italeri models I assembled as a kid! Also my painting skills back then with dodgy paints and cheap brushes made it look like they were painted with a hammer, and thus my interest faded away...
I remember having to save up quite a bit of money 30-ish years ago to buy a scale model - especially something bigger than 1/72 - and in my head, with Big Mac index applied, these models feels cheaper, but I can be wrong...?

Compared to many of my other hobbies this is on the cheaper side, and in a way much more creative, so I'm really happy I stumbled across a couple of videos on YouTube 4 weeks ago!

When I get a bit more skilled in the painting department (quite a lot more skilled to be honest) I'd love to build one of those "full interior" tanks and possibly make a cutout diorama to display the innards. I don't see any other way to display the work you've put in inside?

I did bite the bullet and got an airbrush kit complete with a cheapo compressor, that does work despite being cheap, was key to even trying to build scale models again because what I saw on youtube was beautiful and impressive and looked nothing like my "painted with hammer" models as a kid. Wise choice I think!
