    favourite War film

Hi guys , kids have been put to bed and with nothing on the box thought I`d watch a dvd and pulled out 633 squadron which I have not seen for a long time , with this in mind thought it might make an interesting post if everyone comes up with their favourite war movie , who knows someone might mention a film that you have never seen or heard of which you could add to your christmas list ,

To date my all time favourite is - Saving private Ryan, and although it not a film - the Band of brothers box set series is a must have to anyone who has not got it

Not easy and maybe the results will show some weird ones but

            1: Enemy at the gates

2: Band of brothers box set

3: Longest Day (absolute tosh and more a showcase for a load of actors than history but it is still entertaining)

4: Cross of Iron (only discovered it because of the GB but loved the film)

5: Battle of Britain (if only for the pouting lips and tight uniform......) By the way, yes I am ashamed of myself for saying that :hmmm:

Very hard to mention one thats not already been mentioned.

How about Tota Tora Tora. Pearl Harbour is a good film but highly inaccurate but great if you like love stories.

Catch 22, has that been mentioned?

                  Black Hawk Down

Plus of course any of the above mentioned.

Okay, here are my top 5.

                    1. We Were Soldiers

                    2. Platoon

                    3. Black Hawk Down

                    4. The Hurt Locker

                    5. Full Metal Jacket (if only for the totally ad-libbed drill instructor "rant" at the beginning by R. Lee Ermy)

I would have added Top Gun but didn't think it would fall into the category of a "war film" (although it's totally awesome).

Absolute favourite, (and someones beaten me to it),

Ice cold in Alex, utterly fantastic, I first watched it with my dad years ago and sat entranced, (who else here saw the recent Carlsberg ad and pointed at the tv saying frantically, Ice cold in Alex! to get blank non comprehending stares from the entire room?)

Kellys heroes, Negative waves baby!, (I think this is why I like Shermans as much as I do)

There are other good uns, one I caught the back end of tonight which i'd seen before,

                        Behind enemy lines

Some good but there are things that annoy me

                        e.g.

                        Enemy at the gates

Jude Law 'Eyup me old mucker, i'm a russian sniper I am innit'

Ed Harris 'Hi there buddy, i'm a good ol German sniper boy, yee hah'

For the budget and the actors they really could have tried harder, Bob Hoskins was the only one really trying at russian accent.

A recent one, alternative history and excessive gore aside that I thoroughly enjoyed and the performances were excellent all round

                        Inglorious Bas****s

It is Tarantino so you know the gores a foregone conclusion, you just have to love the scene in the french cinema with Brad Pitts Italian.

I'm sure i'll think of others

                        Hang on, for sheer silliness

                        Churchill, the hollywood years

All Quiet on the Western Front

12 O'clock High (the film not the TV series)

Memphis Belle (the war time original, not the cheesy recent one)

                              Angels One Five

                              The Bridges at Toko-Ri
